Full snippet from today's Window Watch section in The Times written by Gary Jacob.

"AC Milan have edged closer to a deal for Serge Aurier, the Tottenham Hotspur defender, but Spurs’ hopes of signing Arkadiusz Milik from Napoli have been complicated by interest from Roma in the forward."

i always hate the "sell before buy" approach, it just makes us at a weaker position in negotiation

I think in the present climate its not as significant. And its not like we're selling Kane and Clubs would then take the piss.

Its Serge Aurier.

We just need Sissoko to join him now!

I'm happy to keep him as a squad option to be honest. Good guy to have to bring on to see a game out.

But obviously if we receive an offer worth listening to and we can bring someone else in, happy days.

Imagine we bought a non-home grown RB, any buying club knows we did so on the understanding we HAD to sell Serge for HG quotas. As a buying club would you then agree to same terms or would you drop the offer substantially, knowing we had no real choice but to accept? And that difference in cash offered could be difference between back up striker or not...not saying it’s easy but I understand the balancing act of ins vs outs and timing of each.

The article says 'edged closer to a deal' so another case of aggregator accounts exaggerating things methinks.

It depends on how much the player wants to join. If Celik for example only wants Spurs then it makes it a lot easier to drive a hard bargain regardless of sales. Also helps if the selling club aren't in a position to get greedy and risk missing out on a bug transfer fee for a player who wants to leave.

Aurier certainly isn't the best RB in the world (slight understatement) - so in theory I was perfectly happy with moving him on.

However with the intense fixture schedule coming up, which is only a few weeks away, and the fact we need squad depth it is very worrying that we seem to be moving on our only RB before guarantees of an incoming.

And even more worrying is that the majority of RBs that we are linked to, including Aarons, are not actually better in my opinion. If someone said that we would move on Aurier and end up weakening our squad I would have scoffed - but i'm quite concerned that is what will end up happening.

Not really just right backs we have been links with aren’t as much as a liability as serge! Jose can’t have that type of player in his team, Celik for example will be solid that suits a Jose team

Relax- it wouldn’t be a Tottenham transfer window if something batshit didn’t happen. If transfer windows were musicians of the 20th Century, ours would be Frank Zappa
Surely more Capt. Beefheart - zig zag wanderer: seem like we’re heading the right direction, then a sudden change in tac...

Big worry here is season starts in 3 weeks and we are soon to have 0 right backs ! This club are getting too comfortable not replacing players and having 1 player for each position ! Soon to be 0 right backs .... 1 dm ..... 1 left back .... 1 striker, it’s actually laughable!
