I'm not desperate to get rid of Aurier, but I obviously understand the financial aspects of things.

I think this season will be a question of having energy - more than a normal season. A combination of Doherty and Aurier will give us a lot of energy down the right if they are both here for the full season.

The great thing about signing Doherty is that it puts us in a position of strength with regards to selling Aurier. We now don't look like we need to sell in order to buy and the fact we've been using him in pre-season gives the message that we're not under pressure to sell. I still think we should sell because he wants to leave and we don't really have a need for him now, let's get that homegrown spot.

Works both ways really. You could equally say we have a player on our books who's surplus to requirements and likely looking for a way out. Often not good for morale to be stuck in that situation and it could quite easily drive the price down. We should sell but I don't think we're in a particularly strong position to drive a hard bargain.

Aurier wanted to leave last year though and he stayed and was professional, he's proven he's willing to keep working hard even if he doesn't get his move.

He knows nothing, just reading other people's tweets.
Herc disliking this is interesting.

Also, clown though he comes off as, Abrahams is one of the few at talkshite who does actually have links with various people at the London clubs, and as I recall is particularly chummy with our own manager.

Considering we have been having reports for weeks that he is heading to Milan, would it really be a surprise if he signed there?

If I were to put on my body language expert hat I'd have to say Serge's is pretty bad throughout the doc in regards to Mourinho. He comes off as a nice charismatic guy when visiting the kids but he's slumped over during all of the halftime shots and doesn't look thrilled whenever being talked to by the coaches.

No surprise he wants to leave.

Yeah, I felt the same. Definitely could be the way Mourinho calls him out in front of the squad, too. Mourinho’s obviously right, though.

To be fair to old banana hands, @Hercules probably has the fattest fingers on SC! ??

This is what happens when you buy a replacement before selling the player

Or you drag it out and don’t buy anyone until you sell. You then find the selling clubs up their prices because you’ve got money to burn and/or your new player misses most if not all of preseason and isn’t ready to start when the season kicks off. Considering we now have 2 RB’s buying 1st was most definitely the right way to go.

Oh I agree with you both - just saying that this was very much foreseeable as soon as Doherty was signed, considering Milan were already being very stingy.

also the signing hasnt left us "overstocked" on right back options. Its hardly a terrible position to be in. We either get money or we have a strong rb rotation possible in cups
