Judging by those quotes and that Serge was not in the team beginning of last season. I'm going to presume that we had planned to sell him and weren't able to get our desired target last season.

Two years left on his contract we need to sell him really this summer. There’s no way we should be even considering giving him a new deal. He is past the age where he can be considered as a developing player who given time will cut the many issues he has out of his game..

I think there needs to be an acceptance that Tanganga will be back up right back otherwise everyone will feel like we’ve been left short in that position.

If Jose continues with a lop sided approach then it works fine. Tanganga has shown more than capable and it gives him more potential game time. I think the Castagne link makes the most sense, he can play attacking right back with Davies left or attacking left back with Tanganga right.

To repeat others I really don’t think he wants to have to keep players happy by tinkering with team, in this way Tanganga and Sess can play Europa and they’d be more than happy with that. Only defenders he’d need to keep happy would be Sanchez and Dier who’d likely rotate a little. Maybe we’ll sign Kim but wouldn’t surprise me if end up with:

LB - Davies, Castagne, Sessegnon
RB - Castagne, Tanganga
CB - Alderweireld, Sanchez, Dier, Tanganga

He’s mentioned injuries a lot, I don’t see him wanting a squad with 2 players every position I think he just wants better luck injury wise with a concise squad.

If you look back over the last 2-3 seasons our back up full backs have either been poor or gone on to become 1st choice but with major flaws in their game. Prior to Jose coming in we’ve predominantly stuck to the same approach and tactics but if you don’t have said players to play this type of football then you’re screwed.

Whereas if you look at the current squad we’ve an inconsistent 1st choice right back in Aurier and a sound defensive left back in Davies but he’s one of the slowest players to ever play for us.

Unlike previous seasons we’ve 2 very exciting young players in Tanganga and Sessegnon. Both are quick, athletic, bundles of energy and have shown promise when attacking. Whether they be back up for the next season or so, we finally have two talented a versatile players in Tanganga and Sessegnon. What we need to do is fix the ‘1st choice’ issue and sign like minded players whom offer a similar set of attributes to the aforementioned players but have the experience and maturity to start week in week out in the EPL.

I think it’s too good to be true. But if he is going to Milan I’d like to swap him for one of their decent players.
Zlatan? :p
Who would you fancy? They finished 6th this season and way off CL qualificaiton in terms of points, so I'm assuming most of their starting XI would be inferior to ours.

I think the lopsided full back plan was short term and devised to get the most out of an unbalanced squad. Next season I expect our back 4 to play more symmetrically, as they did the last 5 or 6 games of the season. I also expect Tanganga to be at least first choice backup for both FB roles next season. Aurier makes too many mistakes that result in goals and/or penalties. Even in our good defensive run post lockdown his mistakes cost two goals (Arsenal and Newcastle). Getting a reliable defender who is consistent is paramount if Jose wants to continue to play a low block / counter attacking style.

Mourinho has always like to play with lop sided full backs as you call and it usually involves the left back not attacking. He's done it wherever he's gone and often goes with a right-footer or a natural centre back CB. At Chelsea he did it with Gallas and Azpiliqueta, Inter with Zanetti & Chivu and a Man United Ashley Young & Darmian.

I have watched a lot of Mourinho football the last 16 years and I have never seen him play such asymmetrical FBs as he did with us from Nov - lockdown, with us effectively playing 3 at the back and having Aurier as a RW to make the following front 5 - Son LW, Dele inside Left, Kane CF, Moura inside right, Aurier RW. At Chelsea Gallas and Azpiliqueta were from different eras (Gallas in his first reign, Azpiliqueta in his second). At Inter the back 4 stayed pretty flat throughout in a low block. At Madrid Marcelo was a very attacking LB, but he has been all his career. At Man U, his back 4 remained as pretty much a conventional back 4, with FBs that would join attacks when needed.

Mourinho played lopsided formation with both inter milan and chelsea (second time) ... Ivanovic and maicon attacking right back and zanetti/azpi defensive left back

if he goes then I expect KWP will fill the spot, club will not spend money

Really?

He’s obviously going to be sold and we are linked with a new right back every week. I’d put money on what you suggest being exactly what doesn’t happen!

As much as Aurier can be improved we won't sign two quality RB's this window so I'd rather keep him.

I am not questioning that he has encouraged FBs to attack, and in Maicon (Inter) and Marcelo (Madrid) has had some very offensive FBs. But I maintain that none of his teams were as asymmetrical as ours was (until lockdown) with us playing a 3-2-5 formation with Aurier on the RW.
I recall that Ivanovic (Chelsea) was really a CB playing at RB, a bit like us playing Dier or Toby there. Since lockdown we have been a more symmetrical team despite Aurier still getting up the right flank a lot (note Davies has been attacking more too since lockdown whereas before lockdown he was effectively a LCB). We'll have to agree to disagree.
