Actually weird that so many of you are ok with him leaving. Why? A genuine question.

I actually thought he has the potential to improve when Conte came in. But apparently he was not favoured as I thought. Even Sess seems to be in front of him in the pecking order.
Personally, I like Reggie. He really seemed to have embraced Spurs since coming over. He does not seem like a bad influence in the squad.

But, it became clear last year that he had fallen out of favor with Conte. And roster spots are limited. Perisic coming in as a non-HG means there is no room for Reggie.

I hope he finds a good team, and will wish him well - but a decision has been taken, time to move on.

I don't think people wanted him to go but I guess people are ok with it because they recognise what he lacks for Conte. For better or worse Sess is the kind of player he wants, a defensive natural winger.
For what it's worth I believe that is the attraction of Djed Spence.

Was there? Because he was suddenly injured more often than not. If you meant that? Or was it because Sess was preferred over him when both were available?

Because honestly my interpretation was, after reports of RM's intention to bring him back as a first refusal, he seemed destined to leave, more so than any falling out of favour theories, definitely not like the case of Ndombele or Lo Celso.

sorry if he's to go but love the fact conte doesn't allow any passengers in his team or even in the squad. if you're not performing a function to the group, out you go.

Pre season and the Ivan arriving let’s see if he improves he was good for us, sadly a lot of our FBs are wing backs

Interested in your basis for this statement.
He's constantly off jetting with his Mrs, a youtube celebrity influencer type. Nowt wrong with it, wish I was. Just wondered if external influences like that help when you're clearly not producing the goods. Anyway. Wish the lad luck in his endeavors etc etc. But no loss.

I don't think there's much difference between Sess and Reguilon tbh. I think with Sess, there is hope that the knack he displayed in the Championship for sniffing out goal scoring positions will re-emerge and he will have a high output. Reguilon has never looked like a natural goal scorer, although he has got into some good positions.

Ultimately though, I think the HG status is what wins it for Sess. Perisic is our #1 LWB, he has more than the other two put together imo and we can't keep them both on the books.

Think you’ve answered your own question. Sess is in front of him, and conte doesn’t seem to rate him.

I like him but I'm not sure he's effective enough in the final third to be a wing back.

I'm hoping Perisic settles in quickly and Sessegnon continues to develop as backup and getting plenty of game time.

We don't need 3 for this position.

It seems our finances are finite. Reguillon is someone we can likely command a decent fee for, even if it is just getting our money back.

I think there is a difference to being ok with him leaving and actively wanting him out. I'm ok with him leaving. We can't take up 6 slots in the squad just on WB's and when we have Davies who can cover at a push or to see out games the LWB slot is fine without him.

Trix with a winner rating on this one. Sounds like Emerson is here to stay. Personally, I'm quite glad. Still really young, only 23.

His end product was quite poor for us, but it really wasn't that bad in Spain. In his two seasons at Betis he had 5 goals and 10 assists, which is pretty solid for a young 20/21 year old fullback in a top league. Better than Reguilon did at Sevilla.

I think he still has a lot of room to grow and improve, especially in a full season under Conte. If you think about it, last year was probably tougher on him than anyone else. No preseason, new league, young player, and his position was most impacted in the coaching change between Nuno and Conte. He may not be good enough in the end, but if there is anyone in the side who would be unfair to judge after just one season it would have to be Emerson.
I wouldn't say he was here to stay, but like big Dav, Conte was impressed with how they handled the back end of the season when the pressure was on(AC loves that shit). They went from "need to be moved on" to "let's see how they do in pre season and will only go if we get a good offer".

For me it's all about one word: composure.

Conte needs his wingbacks to have composure on the ball at both ends of the pitch. They need to be composed in deep areas under pressure to play the automated passing moves that are fundamental to our entire system. Then they need to be composed in forward areas since we rely on the wingbacks for goals and assists.

For all his other talents, Regi plays at 100mph and never looks composed on the ball at either end of the pitch. He regularly rushes passes and gives the ball away during buildup, and he's got Sissoko/Zokora level composure going forward.

It's a real shame cos there's a good player in there and he was one of the first names on the teamsheet for me under Jose. I thought he would flourish under Conte due to his speed and eagerness to attack, but turns out he's simply not a good fit for Conte at all.

Personally he's never once fully convinced me. I don't think he's ever put a consistent run of good performances together either in his time here. He's a LB not a LWB, but he just isn't that good at either role. He isn't very good going forward, and he's not that good defensively.

I also think he lacks the elite mentality. He seems a nice fun friendly guy, but I do not think he has the win at all costs mentality Conte loves in players. It wouldn't surprised me if he's one of those players who isn't 100% dedicated to the sport.

Regarding Emerson, I am glad he's sticking around. He really impressed me at time last season, and whilst his attacking is less than stellar, he is solid as a rock defensively.

My concern with Reggie leaving is Sessegnon's dreadful injury record, and that's the main reason I'd like us to sign Dwight McNeil. We'd then have adequate cover and free up a non HG space at the same time, and not for a whole lot of money I'd imagine.

McNeil would make superb wingback.

Seems like a nice guy - so does Winks with much more ties to the club - but seriously, someone thought Conte would want him come next season???
