That's not a good sign.

Agree I have the feeling something is not right, feels like Son wants to check his options for the future. As I stated here a few days back there is no reason to delay a contract extension with such a high caliber player like Son. Not even a pandemic.

Nah its fine. If the club has publicly said the contract talks are on hold I really am not sure what else you wanted him to say. Im sure he was just told to dodge the question and give nothing away.

I’m sure he’ll be open to offers from clubs with more chance of winning.
No surprise to me if he and Kane depart this summer, footballers career too short to waste time on a club going nowhere?

IF Son were to not renew and therefore leave this summer, and we have no evidence to suggest this will be the case, but IF this happens, how would people feel off the process when towards two signing for AM positions of three level and quality to where Son was when we signed him?

Just plucking names out of my arse having given it no thought at all, but if Son was replaced by, say, both of St Maximan and Barnes, what would people say?

You're assuming we're going no where.

Making a conclusion of a club's progress at the mid way point if a season is premature to say the least. There have been countless examples of clubs starting the season in poor form only to finish the season strongly or with silverware. We could arguably end this season with two trophies and a strong finish in the league qualifying for champions League.

I like both players, faults and all.

If we did sell Son it'd be for an extortionate fee, so I'd do everything I could to lure Grealish. Not catfish him, you lunatics, you know what I mean.

Son for Barnes and Saint-Maximim doesn't sound like a good deal for us. Even together they don't replace his goals. Hopefully our manager, whoever it is, or our 'scouting department' will have been tracking someone better the way Son was tracked by Poch.

So we're gonna sell Son, Kane and Lloris according to SC, interesting.

Whilst it's unlikely the club would want to sell them, we've never been more exposed to them two deciding their ambitions are better served elsewhere.

CL is where these players want to play, and being massive underdogs in a league cup final isn't going to placate them. Spurs have no right to be arrogant about keeping those two.

We are facing up to two years out of the CL now, thanks to a disastrous league campaign under Jose. Hiring Jose was never about top 4 OR trophies, it was both. If he doesn't get top 4 he's fucked up massively.

No one says we are going to sell, I believe we will do a lot to keep them, but can you rule out that there can be a possibility of them leaving?
Son and Kane are in their prime and looking at the current mess here with No international football next season totally possible? As I think no one would really want to pay for them what Levy wants but who could rule out that Son is not doing an Eriksen or Alaba? Who could blame him?
I think it will become more of a trend of running contracts down as clubs seem to struggle more to pay the transfer fees clubs want and it means a real pay day for player and agents.

We will see and I have my fingers crossed that Kane and Sonny stay with us some more years.

That’s be a great way of suffering to blow, I guess I’m thinking in terms of squad rebuild. Much rather we didn’t sell him at all of course.

Like I said, plucked those names out of my arse. I generally was curious to see how people would feel if he was replaced with two younger players with potential to each become Son level players.

Kane has 3 years left this summer, so no pressure to sell. Son if he hasn’t signed by the close of the summer transfer window will be in Eriksen territory of value deteriorating in the final two years of his deal, while also getting closer to 30 (turns 29 this summer). Not saying I either expect or want him sold, just asking how people would feel about the use of funds IF we have no other option, as should he not renew this summer that is the position we’ll be in.

Really? because I thought a few years ago when the subject was their contracts and them not getting paid the 'going rate' before they signed their contracts, now it's down to the fact that we haven't secured CL football for the 2nd year running and you can bet that if we were in a position to qualify the narrative would change to that these players need to win trophies consistently...notice a pattern - our best players will constantly be linked away unless we're constantly winning trophies and we are successful.

Also I'm not sure not qualifying for the top 4 or not getting CL football for 2 years is completely down to Jose especially since he took over near mid season last season, yes this season is all on him but we're not done yet regardless, it's pointless speculating at the moment although you do sound more concerned than me.

In the current climate its sensible to run down your deal to the last year. The players hold all the power then. He's 28, if he signs the deal he knows his chances of getting a big move are all but over unless a team pays big money.

As always you don't know the ramifications of selling/not selling until we see what we're left with after the fact. I'd absolutely love Son to stay and expect he will but if he decided to go and we got somebody the calibre of Barnes and one more who would have to be better than the level Son was when he joined imo, I could live with it.

I think the trade off you'd be getting is likely somebody who doesn't have the finishing ability of Son but somebody who could maybe influence the game across the 90 minutes more by being more involved.

Honestly this forum has really had a fucking steroid injection of stupidity in recent weeks. You can't have a conversation without people jumping to conclusions or trying to paint you in a light by characterising you with things you simply didn't say. I know it can be like that at the best of times but fuck me the last couple of weeks we've outdone ourselves.

@BringBack_leGin asked a hypothetical and you still get people crying about it.

I will get negs for this. We have or are getting peak Son. He will be 29 in the Summer. Silly offer, in my view take it.

It's not what's said, it's what's implied - there's posts all over the forum (not just in here) that suggest that Son will be leaving and the reason is because people some are accepting that this is the worst case scenario and thus setting their expectations so if it does happen they can cushion themselves with the blow and say I told you so. I would absolutely guarantee that this wouldn't be the case if we were sitting on top of the league and/or in great form.

Is is likely that Son will leave, possibly but IMO it's more than likely that he would stay.
