Anyone know why Son wasn’t in the training video put out by the club today?

Common sense would suggest him and Lamela have been given a day or two off as they’ve played a lot lately but the pessimist in me spotted their absence and thought, ‘uh oh’.

Saw Bergwijn and Son training separately from the group. Both have had niggling injuries so makes sense.

Not sure about Lamela

Monday mornings Lamela has the local am-dram society come in to work one-on-one improving his realistic facial reactions to a light slap, and hitting the deck-and roll technique.

Him and Stevie were doing separate fitness work. You can catch glimpses of both of them running and juggling in the video.

Lamela is kept in the freezer during international break. He'll be readily defrosted in time for another shithousing against West Ham on Sunday.

Best winger in the world on form at the moment. I love him. My favourite Spurs player, maybe tied with Kane.

Son drives Spurs to the top of South Korean popularity stakes

SEOUL (Reuters) - Son Heung-min has helped Tottenham Hotspur past Manchester United to become the most popular foreign club in South Korea with more than 20% of the nation now allied to the North London side, according to Nielsen Fan Insights.

In a graphic illustration of the selling power of a big name player, five years of Nielsen Fan Insights surveys show that Spurs had negligible support in the nation of 52 million before Son joined the club in 2015.

Since then, Son’s rise to the top of the English game has been matched by the popularity of his club in his homeland with Spurs moving steadily past Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona before eclipsing United in late 2018.

They have remained the most popular overseas club since and the most recent survey of South Koreans aged 16 to 69 gives them 21.4% support -- representing some 11 million fans -- compared to 6.1% for the second most popular club, United.

“The popularity of Tottenham Hotspur in South Korea perfectly illustrates the positive impact a standout player can have on a sports franchise in a market halfway around the world,” said Marco Nazzari, Managing Director, International at Nielsen Sports.

United’s previous popularity was also driven by a player, with midfielder Park Ji-sung’s arrival at Old Trafford in 2005 sparking major South Korean interest in the English top flight.

Although Park won a Champions League and four Premier League titles in seven years in Manchester, Son’s individual profile has far outstripped his fellow South Korea international both in England and back home.

Son has scored 59 goals in 164 Premier League matches for Spurs and last month became the first player from Asia to score four goals in an English top flight match with a brilliant display against Southampton.

With figure skater Kim Yuna retired and swimmer Park Tae-hwan out of the picture, Son is now South Korea’s number one sports personality and his face in advertisements and goals in the Spurs shirt are ubiquitous on local TV screens.

I said a few months back that he was as good as Mane and should be in the same conversation as him if we're talking about best wide forwards in this league but Primativ wasn't having any of it, where is that guy these days anyway? :sneaky:

I think earlier he was number wise and ability wise he is. He just needs to get to his goalscoring levels really. 20 a season should be a target for him.

Tottenham are prioritising a new deal for Son Heung-min after the attacker's impressive run of form with South Korean expected to see sharp increase on £150,000-per-week wages

Tottenham will turn their attentions to securing the futures of their current squad, with Son Heung-min in line for a new contract.

Spurs navigated a successful transfer window, signing seven first-team players - culminating in last Thursday's capture of Wales central defender Joe Rodon from Swansea.
But the club will now focus on trying to renegotiate the contracts of Jose Mourinho's current squad, with signing Son to an extension understood to be a priority.

The 28-year-old has been a key player for Mourinho - who will hold an inquest into Sunday's capitulation against West Ham at the training ground on Tuesday - since his arrival last year, scoring 18 goals for the Portuguese.
The Korean's importance to Tottenham on the pitch has been underlined in recent weeks, Son scoring eight goals in seven games since the start of the current campaign.
Equally, however, Son retains a major significance within Tottenham's lucrative commercial strategy given his iconic status in south-east Asia.
Son will enter the final two years of his contract at the end of this season. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has an unwritten rule in that he does not allow players to enter the final two years of their playing deals to avoid any possibility of losing them on free transfers.

Christian Eriksen was allowed to enter the final 12 months of his deal last season, Spurs eventually letting the Dane leave for Inter Milan in a cut-price deal of around £17million - way below the playmaker's market value.
Indeed, Tottenham are keen to avoid any uncertainty regarding Son's future at the club given his huge importance and the fact he is in the prime of his career.
The forward currently earns in the region of £150,000-per-week, but can expect a sharp increase as Spurs look to cement his position.
The futures of Serge Aurier and Erik Lamela, whose contracts expire at the end of next season, are also likely to be discussed in coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Mourinho will today collectively address his squad for the first time since watching his team squander a three goal lead against the Hammers.

Spurs were cruising but three goals in the final 10 minutes saw Mourinho's side snatch a draw from the jaws of victory.
Sportsmail understands the Special One largely kept his counsel in the aftermath of Sunday's collapse but will hold a debrief with his players - most of whom were off on Monday - on Tuesday in which he will discuss the circumstances surrounding the draw.

Mourinho said after the game that his side were not 'psychologically strong enough' to cope with West Ham's late onslaught but his squad were largely kept guessing on his feelings.

The Tottenham boss will then turn his attentions to preparing his team for Thursday's Europa League opener against LASK, in which Gareth Bale is expected to make his first start for the club since re-signing on loan last month.
