It was a lack of effort and professionalism. I've never seen a footballer look that unfit. Never.

If you believe this wasn't the case, what would you accredit his lack of fitness to?

i agree that was part of the problem, but clearly the persistent injuries and loss of confidence and rhythm from being dropped were part of the cocktail.

I love the way Tanguy beats umpteen players with a slalom run and gets a shot on target from the edge of the box and the commentators fixate on Dele making an (albeit) unselfish pass to Sid. I feel like if Dele had made that run the commentators would have left the booth and immediately started work on his statue.

Yeah, bit odd how that was glossed over. The commentary pairing of Hoddle and Ian Darke was pretty awful tbh. Lots of waffle, zero insight,

That's the point, we don't know.

There were videos of him breaking lockdown rules by going out training but people still said he wasn't putting in any effort.

Sir, I'm fucking old, I've seen fat footballers ply their trade in the top league, and I'm still yet to recall a footballer look so unfit. Positions and time periods obviously play a role, but still.

I didn't say he wasn't Putting in any effort, just not enough. In regards to fitness and professional sport, trying ain't enough, do the work

But once again we don't know the reason. I find it incredible that football fans genuinely believe they know the full story from someone's body language or demeanour.

I don't care about his body language or demeanor. There are plenty of footballers who look far more nonchalant. We even had BAE who admitted he hated football, didn't know who we were playing week to week, and saw football only as a job. That's all absolutely fine, as long as you are professional about it.

Being gassed after 20 minutes, of minimal work, not manic ball harrying, doesn't scream I'm doing my best.

But it can scream a number of other issues.

Like I say, pretending we know is just weird.

The fact that 6 months later his fitness is a lot better can suggest he wasn't trying or it can suggest he had an issue which he is now over.

Didn’t say that he hated football! Said he wasn’t a football fan.

I couldn’t be arsed to care about Tanguy’s personal life or inner thoughts when he’s playing like this. Clearly his fitness is a work in progress but like I said this summer, I recognize what modern football is and it doesn’t matter if he looks upset or isn’t kissing the badge. He’s one of the best midfielders in the league and he fixed his issues hurting his performance. What’s not to like?

You're fighting the good fight but you're fighting a losing battle, it doesn't matter that he had several injuries most notably the groin injury that might have caused fitness issues. It doesn't matter that there's a lot of issues which may have affected him.

What matters is that most of this forum wrote him off and now he's making them look foolish they need a reason to justify their decision to do so and they've found it in deciding it was his lack of professionalism.

I never wrote him off. Have always backed him from the moment I saw a 2 minute YouTube clip of him and heard he had bossed a game against City in the Champions league whilst passing myself as a league 1 expert able to reel of Nices second string

Don't expect any changes tomorrow apart from Toby and maybe Moura for Bergwijn on the right. And I fully expect Tanguy to be replaced by Gio on 65 minutes,

Is that horse high enough for you bro??

I, and many others, never wrote him off. We're not blind though, and just expected a professional footballer to have a base level of fitness that far surpassed what he was showing. Obviously you were cool with it.

And once again you fail to acknowledge that there was more than likely some underlying issues (Which is pretty clear from how he's doing this season) and just keep repeating talk about him being a professional. You might not have wrote him off but plenty on here did.

I'm not really sure lots completely wrote him off completely, i think there is a difference between people saying a player is basically shit and useless, compared to most on here seeing the talent and just being super frustrated with the lack of application. Which in all due respect, when he's our record signing, you'd hope he'd have. That was the main problem, hardly anyone has really questioned his gifts and natural talent, but that's useless if you can only last 20 minutes (on the football pitch, in the bedroom that's a solid time).

The great thing is, the management persisted with him, Tanguy himself seems to be in a much better place and we now have on show in our CM one of the most talented players i've ever seen with the ball at his feet, but with much needed application. It's a beautiful thing to see and i can't wait to see just how good he can become over the next couple of seasons.
