I have a rare bit of ITK here. Will happily disclose the source to the mods if wanted or if (unlikely) I stumble upon more info that should be disclosed.

When we signed Werner we saw it as a straight loan and were not intending to take up the option. Now, given both his performances and how he's adapted and found his place in the group, we almost certainly will take it up. I was estimated a 90% chance he's with us next season.

But we are also looking to add two young flying winger types in the summer, as well as Werner.

Would Arsenal, Liverpool or City take him.. I suspect a categorically no. If we want to compete with those guys we need more quality than Werner

If that is the case re two young wingers alongside Werner im all for getting Werner. Not sure what that means for Solomon but so it goes

Klopp signed Shaqiri which is probably a comparable signing - that was the season they won the CL and finished 2nd to City with 97 points. Endo has proved to be a decent buy but he wasn’t exactly someone you’d think would be the required quality for a title challenge. Guardiola with City’s infinite resources padded out his squad with signings from Wolves, Leeds and Bournemouth.

I’m still not convinced we should be signing Werner permanently either, but we should absolutely be open to the possibility of signing him and other similar profiles, especially while we’re still in the early stages of our rebuild.

Exactly what we hoped for. January is always about opportunity and we desperately needed a body in that position. We did as well as we could to shore it up for the short-term, while giving the player and ourselves the best position to extend the relationship if everything went well.

Pretty much the definition of a January signing success

Two wingers plus Werner sounds perfect and exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks for sharing!

I think you have to judge him relative to what we currently have.
Out of our wide options he's been more useful than Kulu, Solomon, and Gil.

For me we get Timo in and Gil out then bring in a big hitter for Solomon or Kulu.

Meanwhile Havertz, Jesus, Zinchenko, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo all competing for the PL title who nobody in their right mind would want in our side. City are the only squad who can chuck on class players all over the pitch and the bench. Asking whether a player that is actually good for us would get in their squad as a metric for signing them is absolutely lazy, imo. It's not even about the "quality" of the player either, but can they do what they're asked to do. He's doing exactly what's asked and it's paying off. Who cares if Liverpool would want him when he wouldn't fit the way they're playing? Not me at least.

No idea how reliable these things are but did a search for RB Leipzig wages and these are both saying around £165k a week.

https://salarysport.com/football/bundesliga/rb-leipzig/

I suspect we were probably paying Perisic that sort of money so it wouldn't necessarily increase our wage bill but that's still big bucks.
That isn't correct.
It's supposed to be 170k€ not £.
He's on 150k£

Might be an outlier, but I remain unconvinced.

He might make a good "rotation player", but so would a 21 year old with a higher ceiling.

Disagree - any 21yo who has Werner’s current ability would be out of our price range.

But I also think the thought is to bring in a veteran presence like Werner, and a higher upside player - it’s not one or the other.

Which 21 year old are you on about?

There probably is someone tgough what's the fee, have they played in the team , etc.....

He has shown that he fits into the team and contributed so for me it's better to stick with what is known rather than an unknown player!

He would be good to have as part of a squad.

Arsenals 3rd choice winger is Trossard. He is hardly a world beater, just a good choice off the bench.

Diaz current has 12 goal contribution in 30 apps in the league while Werner has 7 including the own goals in 11 apps for us, I think he’s already doing better than most of the players in his position in the league.
He’s finishing has been a cause for concern but he’s not really the worst either when Diaz had missed 10 big chances this season in the league, even Salah had missed 12 big chances in 25 apps while Werner has 4 misses. Considering the price it’s going to cost us and the numbers he’s putting up, not sure what’s the problem.

A lot of the "we can get someone better" than a guy who's contributing a goal or an assist every other game sounds like this to me.
