It's actually amazing how often he has the ability to make the wrong decision at the crucial moment. Going with his feet instead of heading, using the wrong foot for a tap in etc.. It's like having a super power for making wrong choices.

Didn't want to sign Werner at the start as his finishing is laughable. He's a fine 2nd option and so far way more reliable than sessegnon and Solomon.

Haven't seen anything we didn't know since he signed and think he seems to be taking the brunt for a terrible team performance yesterday. Think we should keep our powder dry till the end of the season and see what it looks like then

I think they have changed it now so he would be 31. By the old system he'd be 32.
No. The "old system" is the international standard (number of full years since birth), which puts him at 31. The new Korean system is number of years since conception, which puts him at 30.

His DOB is 08/07/1992, so he is currently 31 and will turn 32 this summer.

Not for me. Don’t take up the option, move son out left and put the £15m towards Williams. Then all out for a number 9 that the ball can stick better to.
There's a bloke in Munich who wants to win things~ he seems pretty handy and will make us better.🤔

Surprised people think the first chance he had was so straightforward. The way some are going on, you'd think it was a tap-in. Ball came in at pace slightly low for a good header and a bit too high for a volley.

Not saying he's a definite should-sign, but don't think the chance today is a reason to be saying no.

A better player puts that chance away though. He constantly fails on his decision making. He has pace in abundance so could make a really good winger however, it's his final ball that makes him a £15m player and not a £50m player.

I would pass on signing him in the summer, there are better options.

I like Werner as a player and do think he has made a great contribution.

However, he is essentially trying to fill a Kane void, or at least contribute to a huge portion of that.

I think when people criticise Ange or the way we are playing forget that we had to loan a player in the winter window to help with that.

What we didn't do, and other clubs would have, is go into the market and spend 150m on 2-3 players who can realy cover the void Kane left.

We didn't.

We are essentially the same with a young Johnson growing into his role and a loan player asked to chip in while he is here.

I think we caught teams out at the beginning of the season because they didn't know how we would attack without Kane, now they have that figured out, we don't have that quality or real variation to step up it mix it up.

I don't think Werner has enough to have bridged that gap.

Isn't this a contradiction?
He was never going to be signed as a first-choice option whilst you still had Brazil's number 9 playing as your CF and arguably your best player (Son) drifting between wing forward and CF positions.

I think I'm coming down on the side of no.
He'd be a decent squad options to have but we currently need more than just squad options.
I like him but I'm beginning to feel that the money and wages could be better spent elsewhere.
We've already got pace with Son and Johnson, we need a different option.

the more he plays , the more I want someone else...
Hypothetically...If Brennan Johnson was on a similar loan, say with a £30m option to buy, would you want the club to trigger his 'loan to buy' option?

Genuinely curious.

VDV has an absolute horror show on Saturday. Should we sell him? Just wondering because nobody played well against Newcastle yet Werner is getting the brunt of it for what reason I don't know.

Sorry but I disagree. The old system counted birthdays as being on 1st January, so if you were born 31st December, you would be 2 the next day. Now they go by the international age, so people have become 'younger '. If it was taken from conception, not only would that make him 32 already as there's only 3 months to his birthday, not 30, but also how can you fix a date of conception?

1000%. Not just a different option but a threat. Remember that 2v1 against liverpool a few seasons ago where vvd just covered son because he made a judgement call that sissoko would fuck it up, something he inevitably did. Players undoubtedly know about werner, serious pace but finishes 1 in 8 so in some ways already greatly lessens the threat straight out the gate. Yes he's quick and direct but if it came down to it, even if he's got the ball 6 yards out you'd still be looking at marking the other player(s), even if in worse positions. What we need is consistent threat, not just a few players who everyone knows can score and who can be controlled far easier.

Personally I think Johnson has a bit more about him than Werner. And he’s five or six younger, so we can realistically expect him to develop whereas Werner not so much.

We can also hope to recoup some of the Johnson fee, whereas it’s unlikely with Werner that we will recoup any fee given his age, albeit his fee is fairly nominal.

Finally I think Werner’s salary is about twice that of Johnson’s, and over a three or four year contract that makes a big difference and it makes a big difference if and when we want to sell.

Actually think we could get him for cheaper like we did kulu. RB don't want him/can't afford him so could be a Levy special at 12m

Havent watched it back again but my initial reaction was that he should have cushioned an easy knock down to Maddison who would have had all the goal to aim at from about 10 yards out. Like you say it was a difficult chance to score from because of the height of the ball.

That being said though, i dont want to sign him in the summer. If we have ambitions of being amongst the best in the league then we need someone who is reliable in front of goal. Infact it wouldnt disappoint me in the slightest if we changed the whole of the front 3 in the summer as apart from Sonny who is looking more and more lost as the season goes on none of them fill you with any confidence that they will put chances away or impose themselves on a game.
