Its weird - I did not really care that much about Toby before - nice player, I think he improves our starting XI, but wasn't fussed about getting him.

Now I just want to fuck over Southampton and their smug leaders/supporters.

I had no idea Saints hated Spurs to this level, some of the s*** I have seen them spouting is just embarrassing.

They never got over Hoddle leaving them for us. It really angered them, they just couldn't understand that Spurs was his club.

Just moving this to the player thread:

They can't be a week behind as Levy has been in Madrid THIS weekend.
JJ appears to insinuate that this is what he was talking about last week.

Maybe @jetsetyid knew all about this Alderweireld clause issue all along (the not for Twitter element) & its only just coming to light..

@jetsetyid 1m1 minute ago
@DomRS10@RickyYido it's certainly complicated as I may have said 433 times previously .... #Alderweireld

Thanks @raggy for the whoring.

Anyone else think this is a ruse by levy to get them to sell us shniederlin? We drop our bid for toby if you sell us morgan? Would be right up levy's street.

Even with this, my confidence has gone up after Kristof's tweet.

Based on Kristofs tweet it seems like all is good for a deal to go ahead with us and Atletico. Then it's just down to Southampton and Atletico to sort out their legal issues afterwards. I can't imagine the legal fees and compensation if it comes to that being massive so It shouldn't affect any deal we have with them. It seems more like Southampton throwing their toys out of the pram rather than having any real case to get Alderweireld in on a legal issue.

Do you really think Levy is in Spain in advanced negotiations over a player he's unsure of actually wanting to join us?

All these things are sounded out well before the two Clubs start negotiating. The very fact that we're negotiating with AM strongly indicates that TA has let us know that we're his preference, otherwise we wouldn't waste the time.
I'm sure he's interested in us but he could be just as interested in Saints. Also, I've not actually seen any evidence of Levy being in Spain, just the same rumour again and again. Also, it's not as if we only ever enter negotiations with a player thar we have an extremely good chance of signing. I'm under no illusions that Levy wouldn't start negotiations unless there was a chance, but it doesn't mean it's particularly likely. All sorts of contractual things can prove to be a hurdle. Look at Musachio last year. It seems like we got to a decent stage in negotiations with him but the 3rd party ownership shit screwed us over (again!). Maybe Levy didn't know about this legal thing until now.

Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know. I'm not a football chairman so at the end of the day I have a limited knowledge of how these things go down. Basically my point is if it is all down to Toby himself at this point, I think there's a good chance he'll choose us but I wouldn't be getting his name printed on my shirt just yet! (more because it'll cost a fortune than anything else lol)

It does not make sense that southampton would have a one way clause on AMs player.
AM own his registration
If there was such an option clause it would be reciprocal ie Sfc can buy him for 6.8m on one hand or during the period of the option AM can pay SFC 1.5m and get out of the option.
Finally as stated earlier SFC can't force a player to sign for them

or we can sell him elsewhere and pay you say 1.5m

They seem desperate to sign him? I can't recall many times hearing about Levy himself travelling for talks.
Well do you not think they're desperate? They're grasping at straws for fuck sake, they definitely want this! Whilst fit he was a key player for them last year and Koeman has expressed his desire in keeping him. Whether they get him or not, I don't know but I think it's pretty clear that they want him a lot, you don't take this kind of legal action for no reason.

If anything that's more of a reason for Levy to go personally because he's aware of how keen Southampton are so he needs to get it signed and sealed swiftly

Tom Collomoose who's definitely well connected has said we're in talks and Levy is in Spain, as has Gary Jacob of the Times.

Deals are complicated, it involves satisfying three parties and things can change in an instant. But all I'm saying is that we would of sounded out his interest before opening this can of worms.

And its logical mate, he'd of signed for Southampton way before now if he was desperate to be joining them - he clearly isn't because he has better options. I'm sure he would if he didn't.
