I'm going to take it one step further. If we do proceed to EL and advance beyond the round of 32, and depending on other factors at that time, we should be open to make EL our priority for the rest of the season.

I hate the fact that as a nation we look at the Europa League with pure distain and treat it as a "continental" league cup.

My initial thoughts were we should do everything we can not to be in it, but on reflection I think Poch will want to be in it & if he does it's OK by me.

I thought I read something somewhere that if you win the Europa league you get into the Champions league, (early qualifying rounds) if that's the case I think we should go for it as our chances in the league this year will be tough

What's the point... We will just treat the CL like shit anyways and get embarrassed again.

Man U have a very strong team out tonight. Their midfield and attack:

Ibra
Mkhitarian Rooney Mata
Pogba Carrick
If a team like Man U with all their history and trophies can take the competition seriously and try and progress, shouldn't we be doing the same? If they lose they are out btw.

I agree, in the past I've really wanted us to go all out and try and win it. But I don't think this team has got the nous to win it, as we've seen in the Champions League, then we risk blowing our league form and coming up empty handed. We need better depth before.

Unfortunately we are never helped by the Premier League cronies. There were multiple occasions last year where a Monday night game would have really been beneficial for our cause. The fact that we then got 3 Monday night fixtures during the title run-in once we had already exited the Europa League was a little insulting.

we never treated it like shit, we couldn't field our strongest XI every game

Monaco (h) we played our strongest available XI, Rose missed out due to injury

CSKA (a) Rose was still injured, Kane Dier & Dembele was injured, Walker was on the bench possibly with Man C in mind

BL (a) Kane, Toby out injured, Walker not in the squad, though I'm sure he took a knock v WBA

BL (h) Kane, Toby and Lamela out injured, Rose on the bench most probably with Arscum in mind

Monaco (a) Toby and Lamela out injured, Jan on the bench definitely with Chelsea in mind as we have no fit left backs

so probably the last 2 games he could of played 1 player different to strengthen the team, but due to injuries and Rose suspended and Davies injured, he decided not to risk Jan. on the 3 total occasions he could of field his strongest team, as noted all above, look at the opponent that followed.

Poch has admitted we need a stronger squad to be able to compete, so he got it wrong wanting to work with a small squad, but it's not as if we really over rotated our team, we are just a young group that have reached the CL possibly a year or 2 too early, and beaten by 2 teams that have plenty of experience in the comp.

In 35 years of supporting Tottenham these are the dates that really mean anything. These are the moments that live with you, these are the special times that really matter. Winning trophies. Any trophies. These are all etched in the mind.
6 times in 35 years. Only twice when I've been able to celebrate with a pint!!!

How has it come to the point when fans don't care if we're in Europe.
I am gutted when we go out of any competition. We are not entitled to win anything, but I cannot stand it when we don't give ourselves the best chance.
I am staggered that fans would want to go out of Europe. I am staggered fans aren't fussed about the FA Cup/League cup/Europa league. I am staggered when we play weakened teams and go out with a whimper in any competition.
Our club has to have a squad in place to compete for all trophies. You cannot choose which ones to 'really' go for. It doesn't work like that. We have to get what's severely lacking... a Winning mentality.
It seems to be all about money, money, money. It seemingly isn't about winning trophies anymore.
As a club and fans we have to change this mindset or what's the point.
I agree with all that, the only cup I am not so bothered about is the League Cup as it's scheduling is a nightmare. Two seasons ago against Chelsea we had such a disadvantage in the final due to game scheduling. Any team playing in Europe, the League Cup is a nightmare unless you have a big quality squad. However I am desperate to win in Europe or FA Cup.
If we won the Europa League the only thing that tops it for me in my time is the FA cup in 1991! I was 10 at the time!
I would be over the moon if we win this, would swap for a top four finish in the Prem in a heartbeat.
This young team and manager needs this as much as us fans do I think.
The FA Cup in 91 was pretty special especially the semi final and the genius of Gazza. I have never seen us win in Europe so that would be pretty special too, especially if we beat a big team like Man United in the final or on route.

Hopefully if we qualify by next year our injuries would of cleared and the team will be in better form. It's happened so often in the past that a team could be in good/bad form in Europe during the group stages and by time the knockout stages approach their fortunes have transformed. I hope this is the case for us.
