A poorly prepared for pre season just like how the club is currently been run.

Ange facing an up hill battle already

Absolutely horse shit pre season:

- Scott Munn not in post
- The Joe Lewis saga
- Played only 2 friendlies
- No centre backs brought in
- No player sales so a massively bloated squad
- The Kane saga taking all the headlines.......

and we are 2 weeks away from our first game of the season......

I genuinely feel sorry for Ange. We are 2 centre backs away from having a decent team. Problem we have is that our bald **** of a leader is still involved in the football side of things.

* 3 friendlies - We played a closed door friendly vs Cambridge on July 11.

12 youth team players were in the squad so that’s open to interpretation

It's was still a friendly that helped Ange make decisions about the team he took with him on tour. I could be wrong, but It sounds like you wrote that to dismiss the value of that game - so a question for you - should we also dismiss the July 1st to July 11th sessions that Ange and his coaches led with a mix of players (including those same youth team players) as not part of pre-season?

No but I don’t think it can be classed as full first team game

I mean, Rome pulled out of the tour at the last minute and Liverpool played Leicester today, who we were meant to play except... Ashes-like weather. 🤪

Those two games and it wouldn't have seemed any different from a normal pre-season really.

Bad luck, yes, but not sure it's the prep on this occasion.

This is where your doomsday scenario falls flat. There has to be some truth in it.

So still - 3 friendlies - 1 with a mixed squad and 2 with the majority of the full team. I'm not challenging you on who was involved, I'm just re-iterating that Ange has seen his team(or versions of) play 3 different clubs in 3 different scenarios so far. None of us know what value he gained from the Cambridge game, if any at all, but we still played them during pre-season.

It's going to be a long season with a lot to take in Im sure about where we're at and where we're going, and it was always going to be that way. While we're a game behind where we should be it's only going to make so much difference in a season where I think it's folly to expect a brilliant season in any case.

Ange has had a shitload of time to work these players now, and there is a great deal of value in that. During the season manager's are begging for any time on the training pitch to get their ideas across. If match fitness is behind, it is what it is, but it's not like the disruption in Bangkok and Singapore wasn't otherwise made use of in terms of extra drilling into the squad his methods.

Pre-season hasn’t been perfect but it’s also not been terrible.

I think Ange said he’ll arrange another behind closed doors match if needed.

The first few games might be rocky but we looked just as good if it better without Kane 2nd half of last match, get a few new CB’s in with the Kane money and a decent RW or back up to Richy and we could look very good this season.

Personally, I think we will get battered the first few games, I get and understand the training regime of fitness, but you also need to be brain sharp, our overseas money making adventure in close season has been good for business as always but, watching other friendly games this past week, these teams are playing top sides every 3 days, players you will face week in week out, until we work out how to manage preparation for the season ahead we will suffer. You struggle in the first 6 games of the opening season, your season is done. New players are needed in obvious positions, but nothing has been done. Until Levy understands the football ethics, not just business ethics of the game, we will carry on being long suffering.
8th at best this season.
Newcastle won just 1 of their opening 6 games last season and finished 4th.

Just finished watching the highlights from the Summer Series Tournament (Chelsea, Newcastle, Brighton, Villa, Fulham and Brentford) and I'm feeling much better about our defence now.

Every team had multiple instances in each game where the defence looked an absolute shambles, just as bad, if not worse than anything our team has served up preseason.

wow, really? That's our mini league, right there, playing for positions 5-mid-table, he says optimistically. A much stronger test playing each other than Hello Sailors, though. Did you see the West Ham game? I actually went. Defensively shambolic. I've since seen calls for Tanganga to be given an opportunity, although less so Reguilon. Some people just don't understand football.

I've seen Ange say he didn't have time to work with the defence. Not having two players on a short corner, or marking from simple crosses, is not something that needs to be coached.

Yeah, real amateur stuff too like CBs push up but both full backs haven't, leaving a couple of stickers unmarked behind the defence, defenders going to clear the ball and completely missing it and 2 defenders leaving the pass to the other, with no one ending up going for it, with the attacker thinking it's Xmas.

New manager, no Kane, trying to learn a back 4 in real-time...top of the league after 4 games, won them all, manager of the month award. Only a couple of years ago, too.

...you're right in that the beginning of the season means nothing. Unless you're expecting the league title, which I'd hope nobody is this year.

But, Newcastle have better tools and finances to do the job.
I disagree, I think we have a better squad still, but that is besides the point, which is that not doing well in the first 6 seasons doesn't mean your season is "done".

Pre season not even finished and the meltdowns have begun. This will be a fun season!
I’m choosing to be positive about the current frustration and fragile state among our fans - much of which is understandable given the issues surrounding Kane and our centre backs. Lower expectations should mean we give Ange time in what would probably be a rocky first 3/4 months even if with a well balanced squad with key areas addressed. I’ve got a lot of confidence in Ange to be the best man for the job - regardless of the constraints placed on him by Levy et al - so if the fans and the media give him a free pass for a difficult start that might be a very good thing in the end longer term.
