For a country that seems to think that it's people are so much better than the rest of us, they do seem to have a fair few players that don't particularly look Qatari.
It's not like they're a welcoming and diverse country either...or maybe they are when it comes to their football team?!

In that graphic above though, I do feel a bit sorry for the Welsh. ?

Also, I really want to see another replay of the first goal that was called offside.
In the first two replays, my son and I thought it was clearly onside.
They then showed some dodgy computer simulation shite that showed his foot slightly ahead of the bloke next to him (although not an actual shot of the players) but we could have sworn that there was at least one other player playing him clearly onside that wasn't in that view.

Looks like plenty of fans from Ecuador at the stadium which would seem to contradict the stories of few fans making the trip because of cost etc. Stay in Dubai if you can afford it and commute for the games......

A shortage of accommodation in Qatar means a total of 168 shuttle flights will transport fans from neighbouring countries on each day of the World Cup. They include 60 daily flights from Dubai, 48 from Mascate (Oman), 40 from Riyadh and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) and 20 from Kuwait City. Meanwhile, Air France will temporarily resume flights from Paris to Doha for the first time in 27 years, operating 3 to 6 flights per week.

Yes but it was only one player. Offside is the second last player.

Interesting but ultimately they can’t eat their cake and have it too. They're there, they are profiting as individuals and they can say they think they'll have more impact by being there than going but when they stand to profit from it, I think they are contradicting what they are trying to convince us their values are. One of the things I learnt is those the best at lying are those who believe the lie themselves and I think these pundits and participants have convinced themselves they're there for the right reasons, I think they're lying to themselves.

I do have empathy for the players though, your career is short, you didn't get to choose where the world cup was hosted and this is what they worked for, I'm sure they would have desperately wanted it to be anywhere else and it'd have taken incredible integrity to have not participated and I don't judge them too harshly when I'm not faced with that dilemma.

I'm less empathetic towards the pundits and sponsors though who don't really need this feather in their cap to the same magnitude, however again easy for me to say sitting here. However my gripe stems from how much I feel like I've been lectured at in recent years. I didn't take any of their campaigns for inclusivity seriously before because to me those sort of things always appear to be about looking to be on the right side of things than doing and we have seen by their actions, they will compromise the ethos of those campaigns. Hypocrisy bugs the shit out of me and I'd love to see this be the end of companies being able to use social issues for PR but I won't hold my breathe.
