Dawson ???! Seriously?! Wow I must watch a different game. He's very determined and I love the bloke but he wouldn't make my top 15 for how good he is

Poor all Defoe, a guy who if he scores 6 more goals for us is in out top 5 goal scorers of all time and he can't even get a place in the top 10 of the current squad.

It shows how far the current squad has come.

Defoe is a great goal scorer, no doubt about it, but this poll isn't called "Who do you think is the team's best goal scorer".

But this idea that Defoe has no ability is quite frankly bollocks. How can someone with soo many Premier League goals be shit?

Interesting to note that 3 of the top five only signed last summer, and Sandro hasn't even played a full compliment of games equivilent to a season! Clearly the strategy should be to sign more players!!

Jermaine Defoe is exactly the same player he was 10 years ago, nothing has changed.

That is absolute nonsense.

For example, his hold up play is far superior to what it was 10 years ago. The most notable improvement was when he bulked up a bit a few summers ago (Harry's first full season I think it was) when he got injured near the end of the season, trained throughout the summer then had a blinding start to the following season. He looked a new player.

mate, I couldn't give a damn if got as big as Akinfenwa, when he steps out on the pitch he still plays exactly the same way as he's always done, which is to try and get a shot off in the least amount of time possible. he's still selfish, he's still got precious little vision or awareness, and is still not very good at bringing other team-mates into play. just like he was a decade ago.

if you find that nonsense, then that's fair enough

It has, he's worse than he was 10 years ago. When he first joined us he seemed liked a constant threat now it seems he can only do it when he comes off the bench. Has he really scored 130 goals? In 262 league appearances he's scored 90 times, almost a goal in every 3 appearances. It shows how long he's been hear rather than how good he is, he's only been in the top 10 league scorers twice in his career, Darrent Bent has managed it 5 times and that includes once for us.

It's not that Defoe is bad, per se, it's that he's not good enough for a team in the top at the table, let alone a champions league team. He would be amazing at a team like Norwich, Southampton or Fulham

Great thread idea, but with no football to talk about for two months, you should have made the threads every two or three days - this would have given the chance for people who don't read the forum every day to cast their vote.

Probably been pointed out already, but the US sports formulation "most valuable player" (second, third, fourth etc) would be a bit clearer and more useful in terms of meaning than "best" here.
