A lot in the match thread are saying we won because we had played against a poor team. Cvena Zvezda ( formerly Redstar Belgrade) are no mugs and are in the CL on merit. I am tired of when we play well and win convincingly, that it is always that the other team was poor. We made them look poor because of our efforts. Not saying that they could not have done better, but come on, give credit when its due.

In my opinion this was our best balanced team, balanced formation and best performance of the season so far.

Also good to see Dele almost back to the form that made him a household name.

We have actually cut the goal difference of our last CL game to 0 coming from 2-7 defeat to win 5-0

For the statisticians out there, at one point we had 4 Argentinian players on the field coupled with an Argentinian Manager!

All played well but Special mention to Kane, Son, Dele, Ndombele.

Lamela is my player of the match but would have no complaints if any of the fore mentioned players got it.

Kane for me just, but damn it feels good to actually have to think about it!

Interesting point from Andy Townsend on 5Live, saying the having a fit and firing Dele Alli playing off Kane makes such a difference. Even he reckons that tonight, Dele has looked better than he has in a long time.

Having Dele up top helps the team out so much, Kane especially.

Gazzaniga 7- not much to do but better passing then Hugo

Davies 8- solid
Sanchez 9- excellent

Vertonghen 7- ok mostly but made a howler on 65 minutes that would definitely result in a Liverpool goal Sunday

Aurier 8- solid

Sissoko 8- usual Sissoko ......

NDombele 9 - what a breath of fresh air having him partner instead of winks. As I said on Saturday winks and Sissoko is just the worst combo. Neither take any responsibility to start an attack or look to make real threatening passes or runs, for fear of giving up possession perhaps. NDombele however always looking to play a killer ball which maybe only worked half the time but its what you need

Dele -7.5 still working to get his best feeling as poch would say. But he played well , filled in alot of gaps when NDombele attacked

Son 10
Kane 10
Lamela 10 - those 3 well ahead of Lucas/eriksen/Dele right now

Dier 8- looked good I thought
Foyth & lo celso not much time

Pretty sure that’s the first time those words have ever been put together in that sequence.

Not sure if Poch stumbled across this line up or has worked out what a lot of us have been saying for weeks - ditch those who want out, bring some energy and desire into the team and don’t play Winks as a DCM!

Gazza - 7 - kept it simple. wish Lloris would.
Aurier - 8 - got forward consistently well and got a deserved assist.
Sanchez - 7.5 - should start every week now.
Verts - 7.5 - was up for this. deserves a new deal.
Davies - 7.5 - defended well. passed well.
Sissoko - 7.5 - did what he needed too and dominated with his physicality at times.
Ndombele - 9 - simply majestic. spots a pass, and wriggles past presses. Eriksen’s creativity is not needed.
Dele - 8 - caught a couple of times on the ball, but such great movement. makes our front line tick, specifically makes Kane tick.
Lamela - 8 - along with Son he’s been our best player this season so should have started more often. Brought movement and tenacity and got an assist and a goal.
Son - 9 - superb forward display. Jet heels and slick finishing.
Kane - 9.5 - goals, creativity, leadership. put a massive shift in.

Dier - 7.5 - crisp passing.
Foyth - 7.5 - not a lot to do
Lo Celso - 7.5 - glimpses of the future. looks like he will hook up nicely with Ndombele.

I really hope Poch freezes out Toby, Rose and Erisken now. Lo Celso, Sessegnon, Foyth ... they are the players to knock on the door of tonight’s starting XI.

Nice to see the fast decisive forward passes from Tanguy which setup many of the attacks. The forwards were all on fire. Kane superb

Agree with this but feel that Lo Celso had an interesting little cameo. You could see what he us about. With him, ndombele and lamela all playing vertical passes we are a different attacking proposition.

We were doing to Belgrade what has been done to us all season. Vertical passes in behind the full back or in the channel between fullback and centre back for runners to latch on to. It has been done to us time and time again this season.

Pleasing performance. Hopefully we can build from here.

Don't care if it was Red Star or not, we lost to Colchester. Lamela was immense. Goals, assists, pressed and never gave up even at 5-0 up.

Kane, Son and NDombele were fantastic.

Other big performance was Dele Alli... Might not have contributed goals or assists but he kept the ball moving and gave an option. This is the Alli that is dangerous cos he didn't need to be in front of goal to impact. He needs to build on this and keep going. Don't care about goals and assists, just need him back playing.

Dier also looked good and played some quick passing. Wonder if Alli playing well rubbed off on Dier.

Sanchez played superbly.

We fcuking needed that. Now need to be willing to take on Liverpool with that players that were on the pitch today that started playing again

After being totally mismanaged by MP, playing him out of position every time,
today we got to see Sanchez (motm) playing RCB and he was excellent.
And his distribution was excellent too, pinging precision passes through the press to our AMs.

I much prefer that approach of quickly transitioning, and getting the ball to our attacking players before the opponents are lined up in their shells. Arguably Alderweireld has been our main play maker this year, and he throws these long quaterback passes diagonally across the pitch, but he has to trundle to the halfway line to do it, and the moment has often gone.

So I'm ready for Sanchez to move ahead of Toby.

Of course MP then moves him to LCB to accommodate his homey - poor judgement in my opinion.

The other absence that sped our game up was Winks. Once we had the result, Winks was exactly the player to come on and take the life out the game and let the players have a rest. It is an important function like how a boron control rod cools a jittery reactor.
Instead he brings on Dier, disgracefully underused, but a player who plays tricky vertical passes rather than square passes, and that doesn't cool the game at all.
