As bad as regi was today, it must be quite disheartening that almost every time he overlaps, son holds onto the ball and then when the opportunity has gone he passes sideways or backwards.
More and more lately Son only looks forward when it benefits him, not the team

Reguilon had the worst performance at LB I can remember in my tenure being a Spurs fan, and that includes some real tripe including Bassong, Zeki Fryers, and even some of Davies and Rose's ignominious stinkers. I never watched Gilberto or Gary Doherty though.

Gilberto was another level of shit

Hugo, Toby, Tanganga, Bergwijn all did ok for me today. Thought it was a crap setup in midfield with PEH and Winks. We got overrun, outhought, outnumbered and outfought as soon as Villa decided to actually press us...and it was a long day at the races.

How anyone is throwing shade on Tanguy and Bale is a mystery to me. Think both of those, particularly Tanguy, showed what we we were missing in midfield.

Sadly once again we show trying to play football with no midfield seldom works. Until we get sone ball players with the ability to progress the game in this part of the pitch we will always struggle. PEH is a limited player but what we usually put alongside him is usually even worse.

Not sure who to give motm

Every other starting player apart front DA 3/4.
Regi unlucky with the OG fucked him for the rest of the match.

Couldn't stand watching Dele laughing with the opposition shows he's not professional enough to be playing at this level. I really think he's finished. Too soft in the challenges didn't do anything in the game. Positioning was awful. He gets a 1.

After a superb individual goal it all went downhill quite quickly.
The first half was as bad as I’ve ever seen us. They didn’t look fit or up for it which is disgraceful considering it was in front of a (reduced) home crowd for first time in what seems a lifetime. I have no idea what Mason’s thinking was with no Lo Celso or NDombele in the starting lineup but it added up to no creativity.
At the back Reguilon had a mare, Dier was at his sloppiest best. Without the ball the midfield was nonexistent. Villa strolled through it like there was no one there. Dele was strolling around like he was giving a cameo in a testimonial. Upfront Son might as well stayed at home for all the effort or effect he had, Kane looked uninterested and kept dropping too deep which left no focal point and gave the Villa defense one of their easiest games. Berwijn was our only threat and it’s incomprehensible to me that he was taken off instead of Son. I was amazed there were no substitutions at half time and to be honest it could have been anyone. Also don’t understand why Mason waited so long to change things and then made the wrong substitution.
In truth we could have lost that game by a cricket score if Villa had been ruthless.
I gave MOM to Toby as he was the only player who did his job consistently for the 90 minutes.
I said in a post a while back that I’d preferred if we missed out on Europe if no CL so the new manager can just concentrate on the PL without the distraction of traveling to the far flung corners of Europe every week as he’s got his work cut out for him. It worked for Conte at Chelsea (and Leicester).

Its actually a good set of results for us. We already didnt qualify for CL, so I'd rather we finished outside 7th so we dont have to play in europa or the conference league. Waste of time going to all those remote places, only to end up losing at some stage eventually

Levy's not gonna spend anyway, Kane's gone, so we must be delusional and kidding ourselves if we think we can challenge in europe.

Better sort our internal shit while playing domestically, rather than embarassing ourselves in europe.

I'll happily lose to Leicester in the last game

We won 3 trophies in the 70's plus 1 European Final. OK we got relegated but back then it was seen as a blessing.

Yep, ? The Good the Bad and the fucking Ugly....that was the '70s...one extreme to the other.....a bit like this season, top of the league and then one game away from mid table mediocrity.

I watched Leeds vs Southampton last night.

Far more movement. Much more press. Much more energy. More showing for the ball. Better passing.

At least it wasn't so microscopic. Times have changed, I say to my Grandson "Want to play football?" He gives me some controller and switches on the TV. We'd find a field some bamboo canes and be out all day. Three and in jumpers for goalposts, great days.

My grandson said after the match "I could cry after watching that"..... I told him he's got a lifetime of it, it's one of the pleasures of being a Spurs supporter...lol.

Wild optimism in here after on-the-beach-Wolves match . You can't ignore the effort levels of opponents and just assess your own team in isolation . I thought mebbe Villa would be on the beach too and Leicester would be the one to clear the Wolves Sheff Utd delusions , but no ,Villa made a reasonable effort so this Spurs team were fucked ..

Hapless Mason hasn't helped , but penny pinching Levy put him there and blew our Europa chances . Mason played his mates and stood around with folded arms aghast unable to make any sensible suggestions .

I've been attacking unsubbable/unbenchable Son(2) since the Final, all performances a complete disgrace, now Kane(3) is strolling

In some ways this slump is positive . Levy now knows for sure he has to have a proper clearout and total reset. Yes Son and Kane's possible departures look like catastrophes but its time for them to go , so much of 2021 Prem normalcy is hard effort that they don't make and with the millions they will generate, at least next manager has money. All eyes on our scouting system/DoF to spend it well . At least forwards will come to us with Kane gone .

I also agree with a poster here . No Europe will help our Prem concentration. I'm not sure how attractive it is to new players to be in Europa/Conference anyway . Complete overhaul with new , energetic players, the proper end of the Poch team . Big summer ahead .

Literally the only positive I can take from that performance is there's only one game left. Jose should have been kept till the end of season and then pushed. It's nowhere near good enough in terms of effort from the players but Mason is clearly not ready. I watch his lifeless touchline display while next to him Smith is barking orders and tactics and I'm not sure he'll ever be a top manager. There's a huge difference between coaching and managing and plenty of great coach's don't have the minerals to do the ruthless side of managing a team. His insurance to pick those he played with over other options is a sign he doesn't want to upset the apple cart. Pathetic performance all round.
