Genuine question to yourself and others. Is it possible (objectively) that you want him to do well and therefore view his performance less critically than you would others??
I did it for a long time with Winks, before I realised I wasn't being as critical in viewing his performance as I was with other players.
Dele played ok, I don't think it was better than ok. Some good, some bad
Dele has ball skills ie nut meg and passing which Winks has not got. You do have a point that I want him to do well and I am comparing him to his recent performances.
Also José had not played him for months so waying all this up helped me with my decision for MOTM.

sure we all have biases. is it possible you expect Dele to be poor. and therefore judge him more harshly?
That's the thing, I don't expect Dele to be poor. I accept that he's not everyone's cup of tea and that players like him are different to others. He tries to make things happen in a way others don't. He can be equally majestic and infuriating in the same game (sometimes in the same minute)
I really rate Lo Celso. BUT, despite him playing well only felt he did ok, because I wanted to see more drive from him

maybe you're just harsh in general then. GLo did well today, too.

And that's why it's a game of opinions. Without contrasting opinions this and other threads would be a few pages long and have little interest to most of the members

I already said I thought GLo played well, but that I judged him to play OK, and thats because I know he can do better. I have seen him (admittedly pre-injury) get the ball and drive forward much better. The ceiling I feel GLo has is higher than he has been producing. I really feel that he has all of the characteristics to be as good as anyone in the league in his position.

Nice win today, quite composed without really getting out of 3rd gear.
Wolves look very poor mind.

Lloris - 6 - Not much to do
Tanganga - 7 - great at 1 on 1 defending, but not much from him going forward, needs to work out his position and stick with it
Toby - 6 - not overly troubled, solid
Dier - 6 - luckily not troubled, needs to leave
Reguilon - 7 - Seems to play well at home, energetic as usual but left Traore with space down his side
Hojbjerg - 8 - good all round performance, great work ethic
Lo Celso - 6 - not impressed at the moment, lots seem to break down with him, playmaker he is not
Alli - 8 - MOTM lovely inventive play from him today, looks busy and bright, more please
Bale - 7 - looks good when shackles are off but still think we are exposed against better sides with Bale playing
Son - 6 - need the season end, not been right for months
Kane - 7 - better today, good goal, love him

No one really had an outstanding game but it was enough for a vital 3 points.

Im clearly not seeing what a number of you are in GLC. Once again I thought he was very very average today.

Thought dele just about deserved it today, PEH very very close 2nd with his goal and assist.

Thought Kane and Bale both had good games as well.

Son was not great today again. GLC had good and terrible moments.

Defence all did OK.

Also Tanganga can jump really high as seen a couple of times in this game.....so it kinda shits on Jose saying he can't play CB cause he's too short.

Lloris was alert on the very rare occasions he has to be.

Tanganga brought a ‘don’t get beaten at any costI’ mentality which I loved, needs to read passes around him a little better but overall was not ruffled.

Centre backs were both fine, barely tested alder from one time Adama cut in, passed the ball well.

Reguilón had almost free reign to bomb forward and looked good for it. Loved the fight to make our second goal.

Højbjerg scored and made a goal, the assist a lovely pass from deep, and was involved in pretty much most things we did.

Lo Celso had his best game in a while, some very nice passes into the channels, showered for the ball constantly and used it quickly. Hope he builds on this in the final, more difficult, two fixtures.

Bale was good, he was a constant threat and even if he didn’t get the headlines, some of his link up play was great and the variety of his crossing was dangerous at all times. Sweet first time hit in the build up to our second and tracked back well.

Dele was man of the match for me. He dropped back and took responsibility for driving our play, he lined beautifully with Kane and deserved a goal or assist, and he worked his arse off. Some of his trickery, at the right moments, was a pleasure to watch.

Son was quietest off the attack but when he got involved he was unpredictable and linked up well. Seemed to have that chemistry back with Reguilón.

Kane was Kane. It’s hard not to vote him our best player every time, he really led from the front while the way he ride challenges and stayed compressed for his goal was perfect centre forward play. Should’ve had another off the Dele pass.

Winks came on and did ok, looked to get involved and seemed positive in his passing and driving forward.

Ndombele had a decent cameo, tried to get on the ball and keep our party in the final third varied and fluid.

Sissoko held shape for three minutes.

As PEH scored off of a goalkeeper save from a Kane shot, doesnt that mean it's an assist for kane?

It was a Bale shot. And no, it doesn't count.

Seems unfair that. Same as when if you win a penalty and the guy scores, it doesnt count as an assist either.

Always felt those two situations should count as an assist as you have created a goal scoring chance.

Thought GLC was best on the night for me, he drove our midfield and was at heart of most of our good play.

Brilliant effort by Reggie for the second goal, just all about tenacity. Back four generally ok against a surprisingly poor Wolves. But still moments where could have been punished, particularly if Traore had some end product. Like the fact that Tanganga can get off the ground and is aggressive when heading, can see him nabbing a few goals for us from set pieces.

Dele, Kane and Bale all had a few good moments. Son didn’t have a good first half and was a little better in the second.

PEH was solid in the midfield and got through a lot of work, deserved a goal for great following up. Winks did nothing wrong when he came on and recycled possession competently.

A couple of people have mentioned assists~ I don't give a flying feck who assists.
I don't really care which of our players score~ as long as we get one more than the others.
Sorry if off topic I just wanted to get that off my chest.
There done now and feel better

That was a game where I think everyone just deserves a solid 7. Nothing more, nothing less.

MotM: Hojbjerg, he gets a little star for his assist and goal.

Neither should be counted as assists really, assists have always been when a player directly sets up a chance for another player to score.

I'd say both of those things do that.

As for intent, you can look for the penalty, and you can about it hard and on target looking for the keeper to spill it.

Just always felt it was especially harsh that some bloke could dribble from his own 18 yard box, beat 9 players, round the keeper, get pulled down, and then some other bloke steps up to slot the pen, and you dont even get an assist for the penalty.

They don't really though do they...you can get a pen by the virtue of by a defender making a dumb decision, like if a defender pulls an opposing player's shirt in the box then how can you count that as an assist? Likewise a shot at goal which is either saved by the keeper or hits the post shouldn't count because the intention was to score and set his team mate up?

Assists these days seem a bit meaningless to be honest, it seems like people love to apply them where they don't need to be applied (not saying you're doing that) seems like the new internet fandom of quoting stats without context, I think chances created should have far more weight applied to them.
