Sorry guys but I have to get this off my chest. Some of the comments on the match thread really suck; there's an arrogance that just because we have better/more famous players we should have pissed all over this team and gone through.
Football is not like that. Having better players is a great advantage but alot of other things matter: fitness, attitude, pitch condition to name just a few. And i suspect it is for these reasons that we lost.
Across the 90 mins we lacked urgency (passes were slow), lacked intensity (we didn't press well and didn't show the determination to win or get to enough second balls,) and didn't create enough (no one was trying to make things happen except for GLC, not enough good forward runs). Add to this that their team matched us technically and were highly clinical (I dont think they had that many opportunities) you get a surprise defeat.
Individuals:
Tanguy: he is my scape-goat for tonight. He's been bad a few games now but tonight was a new low. He cost us the third goal, losing the ball in the middle of the pitch after failing to turn away from the opposition's press, leading to a direct turnover. Our defending players could have done better but the responsibility lies on him, because those are mistakes that more often than not will cost you goals at this level. I hope he learns from this; but I'm not optimistic as he's made similar misktakes regularly without getting punished. Aside from the mistake I also felt that he hasn't controlled the game; I can't remember a good transition from back to front.
Lo Celso 7: my MOTM. Took responsibility to create after he came on, under terrible conditions. Didn't let it affect him.
Sissoko 2: was terrible tonight. He has no ability to control the ball, and the bad pitch didn't help. He was a liability tonight.
Jose 2: the team doesn't look prepared. We lacked energy/intensity except for the final minutes when we were running on pure adrelinin. I suspect this is something to do with the player's attitude (maybe arrogance) because we didn't look sharp from the get-go. There are good and bad losses but one due to arrogance is not acceptable. Needs to sort it out.
