Spurs keen on Kingstonian return
  • Saturday, 21 July 2012 11:12

Tottenham Hotspur coach Tim Sherwood has not ruled out a return to Kingstonian for the club.

Sherwood and assistant Les Ferdinand manned the dugout – watched by new Spurs assistant boss Steffen Freund – as their team of young stars beat Ks 2-1 at Kingsmeadow on Monday, thanks to goals from skipper Ryan Mason and sub Jack Barthram.

Freund did promise Kingstonian manager Alan Dowson he would put in a good word to White Hart Lane chief Andre Villas-Boas over the possibility of returning next summer.
And former Blackburn Rovers Premier League winner Sherwood warned his boys’ fate could mean their paths cross sooner.

“We had a lot of 17 and 16-year-olds playing and they struggled to adapt in the first 20 minutes,” he said.
“But once they did they moved the ball well and with confidence.

“These guys want to play at the highest level and they are going to have to play at places like this in the third round of the FA Cup. It could be we’re back.”

Spurs were the first of three Premier League visitors to Kingsmeadow this summer and coach Ferdinand insisted they fielded more than just a youth team on Monday.

Many of these players will be in the reserves and around the first team this season,” he said.

Interesting last sentence, veeeery interesting...

Unless it's already been confirmed on here and I completely missed it lol.

Anyone not in the 1st team could be called a reserve , it's just a phrase for not playing

Always had a reseve team or "development" squad, just were not playing in a league. However, Spurs are due to compete in the new U21 league, which I think starts this year.

That will hopefully be a far more meaningful competition than the old 'reserve' league, which had become a bit of a joke. I wonder how many of the people calling for its return ever bothered to go to Stevenage or Brisbane Road, let alone the away fixtures.
