Sounds like we agree all things with player first and then don't agree fee with club. Pathetic system. Sounded like the same with Benteke. On and on it goes. Makes players feel like they really aren't wanted.

So we know that Baldini was in Valencia yesterday for talks. Which ended with no firm agreement but it would be discussed at the Valencia board meeting the next day.

Why would Baldini stick around for that meeting, he is not part of it.

It seems like people are taking the events of yesterday and mixing them up with what they expected to happen today.

So they reject the deal? Once the original meeting has happened, surely further posturing can be done via conference call?

Will wait for some more factual news, but IF... IF Levy messed this up and we genuinely had it in the bag, but due to lowering the price shot ourselves, then my indifference/slight positive leaning towards Levy's running of club will shift.

He might not care what the hell i think, but damn it, Soldado is a quality quality striker. Losing out on him with a move like that would be borderline unforgivable.

I can't see how the deal would have collapsed completely after having been so close unless Levy really did do what is being suggested.

@spurspanyol: The same station (Cadena Ser) reporting that Spurs heard VCF have someone signed and are ready to announce him. Spurs lowered the fee.

Sounds like Levy to me. Time to move on from this one. Once you p*ss off a Club like this, they won't talk any more and will look for other offers.

I can't see why anyone would believe this. Yes we may say to clubs we will pay X amount and then hit them with a crazy payment breakdown, but there is no way we have changed the sum total of our offer over night. Levy has a successful business career and how many people genuinely believe he would have that if these were his tactics.

He has done it before. Lloris.

Baldini (on phone): Great news Daniel, Valencia have accepted our offer of 26M + 4M if Spurs win the Champions League in the next 5 years. We've got our man!

DL : What? No you idiot, I authorised 4M + 26M if we win the CL. Go back in there and explain your mistake. It shouldn't make any difference, it all adds up to the same.

Why don't we all wait and see what happens before passing judgement? It'll save a lot of stress and worrying.

Clearly if it's obvious to anyone here that Soldado would be a great buy and we're in desperate need of a top striker, it will me equally obvious to Levy et al. This stuff about changing deals last minute strikes me as utter nonsense. You don't become a successful businessman by screwing people over and going back on your word.

There's a big difference between being a tough negotiator and acting like its a game of Monopoly.

Is anyone really surprised at the level of emotion about us signing, or not, a proper striker? Stop with the sanctimonious bi-polar/breathe/calm down etc. nonsense please.

There's a lot at stake and we are very close to being a fucking great team and being well on our way to where we've wanted to be for years and years, so people are going to have extreme reactions. This is football - all about the heart with fans, rarely about the head.

I wouldn't want to go into a serious negotiation with some of you lot on my team.

We'd end up caving in to all the other party's demands!

You need balls of steel and you have to have the courage to walk away if the deal isn't right for you.

If Valencia blink first, great.

If not, we move on to other targets and avoid stretching our budget beyond what we can afford.
