No!

You were meant to say:
Calm down, it'll all be fine.
There there.

Well they need the money by August 27th so it won't be a deadline day breaker. I imagine we will give it another week to sort it

Villa
Jedvaj
Benteke (sort of)

They kinda spring to mind quite readily...

Pretty sure none of the clubs those players played for or play for said we were in negotiations. In fact Villa said they never received a bit. So the only info on the above was paper gossip and ITK rumours.

So is all this stuff on SSN all out dated then? I really hope this doesn't drag on and on we will loose him!

The deadline seems to be 3rd August - Spanish report said that was when his release fee went up.

Someone mentioned the other day that they had a new chairman who was better at negotiating than the old one. Dunno if that's true or not.
Graham Hunter just said on SSN that they have a new president, but he said they are still learning about him as he is new and they don't know if he is a hardball negotiator.

Why August 27th?

The clause on Soldado goes up to 65 million on August 3rd iirc.

I still don't think this will happen, Levy won't pay what they want.

But to those dating this us too much. Had it occurred to you that a huge signing is a double edged sword?
You get a top quality player AND you make a massive statement of intent.
You make the footballing world sit up and take notice.

I kind of assumed that the only way this deal would happen would be if Levy could pay around, say 24 million euros and 6 million euros in add ons - add ons that over time might never have to be fully paid due to Valencia's debt problems, performance targets not being met etc. (like with the Bale deal where we later bought out the add-ons value for much less than they were worth due to Southampton's poor financial health).

So if Valencia really do want the full 30 million euros (albeit in instalments), IMO that makes the deal less likely for us because I cant see Levy wanting to pay that? 24 million + 6 with the chance of that 6 becoming 2-3 would have been much more appealing for him IMO.

Hope i'm wrong

He will want to show off his 'strength' then. Supposedly their last president was awful and pretty much gave players away. Damn it!

Villa was wages not fee, surely?
Jedvaj was tied up in a deal with another player
Benteke just no, he hasn't gone anywhere

I'm trying to be positive here, work with me

The difference with this negotiation and those in the past is that we are desperate for a high quality striker, and a good majority of high quality forwards that would've potentially fit us (Negredo, Gomez, Villa) have already changed clubs. Valencia, Roma, and any other club we approach for a goal-scorer know this, and will not bend to our whims for a well regarded player.

Levy also has the additional pressure of fulfilling the desires of AVB and Bale, who are exceptionally hot commodities in world football. In some ways, bidding 26 million Euros for a 28 year old striker shows that some things have changed at the club (for the better in my estimation), and that Levy is willing to pay over the odds to solve our striker crisis.

The only downside to this is if we fail to land Soldado and go looking elsewhere for what little quality remains on the market. Roma, who holds the only other viable striker options for us, may hold out for more, knowing that we bid 26 million Euros for Soldado.

Did he add anything new at all such as the likelihood of the deal?

Summary:

Salva is a relatively new president at Valencia and this stance is unusual as the club usual sell when a big offer comes in. He says he's told Spurs that he will not accept a payment structure which is less than the £26m buyout, even if it includes add-ons, but he is willing to negotiate a deal which means Spurs don't pay the full fee now, as long as it IS paid eventually. I didn't quite understand that as surely add-ons ultimately bridge this difference, but then I guess it depends on the add-ons.

So there's certainly scope for more haggling but he's adamant that Valencia receive £26m in full or Soldado will not leave the club this summer.

Hunter said if Spurs think this is the man who can get goals - which he clearly is - and fire them into the Champions League again, then they have to spend big and Soldado is certainly a striker who can offer that. So the ball is in Levy's court.

He also mentioned that Soldado told him last summer he was all set to sign for Spurs having been impressed by the club and our interest but decided to stay at Valencia for another year - so Spurs have that in their favour too.

That's not what "double-edged sword" means.

We sign Soldado after Paulinho and Chadli while keeping Bale and Kaboul and Sandro are back from injury. We'd be making a huge statement of intent if this deal does come off.

I know we're all desperate for this to happen but let's not dress up the fact this could potentially be a long way off.

If we supposedly wouldn't pay anywhere near the amount Villa wanted for Benteke, who is 6 years Soldado's junior; I'm still struggling to fathom how Levy has been convinced into this one.

I think it all hangs on how desperate Valencia are behind closed doors for the finances... Surely Levy has got to want to keep the up-front fee south of £20 million.

I think one other interesting thing to note was how close he was to joining last year as that didn't seem to be the case from our point of view.
