Season Ticket Benefits

I got offered a season ticket last week after being on the waiting list for 10 years or so. I was over the moon and have now bought one in the North Upper Stand for £895.

However, I was just looking at prices on the website and realised that if I wanted to, I could have bought a ticket to every home league game and the first 2 cup games for exactly the same price (perhaps even a few pounds cheaper).

The same goes with buying the multi-game packages. If I bought all 4 in the North Upper stand that would come to £169 x 4 = £676. Then if I bought the remaining games not included separately (Arsenal - £54, Man Utd - £54 and Saints - £41) the total comes to £825. Adding in buying tickets for the first 2 home cup games that again comes in at about the same rate as my season ticket (if not cheaper).

(You do get the £50 odd pound bronze membership fee back after you have purchased a season ticket but this still doesn't make the season ticket much cheaper in comparison).

So my question is, is the only benefit to having a season ticket that you can guarantee your seat (the same seat) at each match without having to worry? I thought the overall price might be cheaper but it doesn't seem to be.

I just get the feeling that a Bronze member who didn't have a season ticket yet but wanted to go to every game, could indeed do so if they wanted to (obviously providing that they were on the ball and logged on in time on the on-sale dates).

So are there any other benefits to getting a season ticket?

I think you are pretty much right with your analysis. It also becomes easier to go to away games as a season ticket holder, you can purchase tickets before members have the chance.

I'm in the same position... just got my season ticket in south lower. the price may not save you much but as you say it guarantees you every game - in particular the category A games, e.g., arsenal, chelsea, man utd which can be notoriously hard to get and so although you say its the only benefit - its a massive benefit as you don't need to waste time online getting tickets for every single game, you know your same seat is there guaranteed

3,084th. I was surprised to be offered one before the new stadium tbh. But I had been on the waiting list for 10 years so not complaining!

If you have a gold membership, you do save a little bit of money on booking fees for cup games.

Doesn't it work out to something like £19 a game - I've seen tickets change hand for the Arse game at over £100 so I'd say that's a saving

I'm a platinum season ticket holder so the benefits of that are obvious (guaranteed ticket to all away games being the main one). But it's obviously not going to work out any cheaper being a season ticket holder because if you didn't buy it, chances are virtually all of the games would have been purchased as single match tickets for the same price anyway.

£895/21 games (19 league and 2 cup) = £42.60 per game.

I've been offered a ticket in each of the last 3 summers and I've had to pass each time. :( My disposable income isn't what it was back when I joined the list and didn't have kids.
I could stretch to the cost of the season ticket as I pay for 5-7 games as it is but it's the fact that my travel costs would probably be another £700 plus the cost of food/drink, programme etc. Then as I waver and think maybe this year I should just do it, I remember that we might be playing in MK which would cost even more to get to.

Would be good as well if as a ST holder you could switch your seat so you could sit next to family/friends who only went to occasional matches. Maybe you can?

A guarantee of the category A games is a massive plus for me. You can sell games you don't want to attend on Stubhub. I think if people can afford it and have the time it's a good purchase.

Had 2 x ST's for years and years. Only real benefit is that you don't have to worry about sorting out the tickets etc, you just know you only have to turn up. The costs as you've said have now been evened out, but of course you do get your 2 'free' cup game tickets against someone of the standard of Bushey Park Rangers or Enfield Town!

I think the size of the so called ST waiting list is a load of bollocks and put out by the club in order to generate interest. When push comes to shove in 3 years time we'll see how many people take up the opportunity to buy one. I think the club at least in the short term will have to be a lot more creative with their pricing. If for example they have to greatly reduce the prices for a game against West Brom in order to get the 60k punters in then they'll have to do so for the ST holders. Therefore I predict a much greater difference between the so called cat A games and the cat c or even D ones. The Prem League have also said that they want full stadia to be shown on TV for broadcast around the globe as this is a positive. Overpricing and TV coverage will kill this so clubs will have to provide cheaper tickets. I deserve lots of optimistic rates for the last comment!

Will the new stadium kill the season ticket i wonder?

I was thinking that, it is not that difficult to get tickets for all home games as a member now. Unless there is a financial incentive I doubt I will get a season ticket at the new ground, after the initial euphoria has died down should be straightforward to get tickets.

Problem will be getting away tickets - if there is an increase in the number of season ticket holders, it is going to be more difficult to get tickets as a member.
