Campbell will always be overlooked because of his arrogance. He never played a number 2 role anywhere that would allow him to learn the basics which in turn would help him become a number 1. Look at some of the best managers in all the leagues and they played number 2 before moving on to number 1. Campbell thinks he is to good to be a number 2. He should try and become a successful number 2 before stepping into the number 1 role.

I know Lampard and Gerrard walked into number 1 roles but Frank didn't succeed for the reasons we all know and maybe if he gets the Norwich job he may as well make a good fist of it. Gerrard managed Rangers with some degree of success in as league were only 2 teams win time will tell whether he replicates that at Villa.

We also know nothing of the work that Gerard or Lampard have put in behind the scenes to get those badges and earn that opportunity. They both strike me as still very familiar with the training field, as senior team members they were likely both heavily involved with their own clubs with regard to man managing, in an era where players have that connection with managers, who will then back them to succeed.

There aren't any managers coming out to back him up and that says a lot - nobody has any idea if he'd be any good and he's angry that nobody will take a chance. He could improve his chances by hooking up with someone like Vieira maybe, at Palace, as a coach with the first team but that's probably beneath him.

I would love to hear Vieira's response if he reached out with that offer and Sol turned him down. I imagine Patrick would be well impressed. /s

You get the feeling that Lampard and Gerrard, especially the latter, are the type who leave no stone unturned in the quest to become a great coach. They cover every base, have put in the hard yards and are not out self promoting to get there. Basically they are just working on themselves.

Campbell has done nothing but appeared on TV to have a whinge and moan about not being given a chance, seemingly believing that starting at the bottom was beneath him - when I talk about 'bottom' I mean start at grassroots, work in an academy, show you are in it to be a good coach and not just seen to be one.

Yes, he did those stints at Southend and Macclesfield but again it looked like he made it about him and that after those brief stints believes he's due a role at a better club.

Basically, if he spent less time complaining about it and more time putting the hard yards in, then he may get somewhere.

There's a lot of black coaches doing stellar work and making a name for themselves at grassroots level and that's because they are working hard and focusing on what they can do to be the best coach they can be.

I never get that impression with Campbell.

You'd think there could be nothing worse than being a QPR fan and reading this paragraph...

Sol Campbell has emerged as a leading contender for the vacant manager’s job at Queens Park Rangers, TalkSport understands. Ex-England defender Campbell, a former Tottenham and Three Lions teammate of Rangers’ director of football Les Ferdinand, is set to be interviewed about succeeding Mark Warburton.

I mean, yeah, it's obviously horrendous news, but he's on a shortlist, yeah. I mean, there must be, what, three or four to be interviewed. Surely, they'll go for someone with top flight experience.

And then you read this paragraph...

The Hoops have already spoken to MK Dons head coach Liam Manning and Newport County’s James Rowberry while another of Ferdinand’s ex-colleagues, Tim Sherwood, is also on their shortlist.

Hell's teeth.

I mean, that has to be right up there with Clinton-Trump for the worst shortlist in history.

Obviously, we're not QPR fans. But, if you do know any, reach out to them tonight, give them a hug and buy them a pint. They'll need it if they've read that article...

Well QPR fans don’t need to be worried, he has to get past the interview first. Can you imagine his answers to the interview questions.

"And finally Sol, based on what you have seen this season, which area of the team would you say requires the most improvement? Midfield? Defence?

"I'd say quarterback"

He has a Linkdin - I didn't know he did his UPL with the Welsh FA.

Just browsing his Wiki and a few articles and interviews - can't find him once talk about anyone who's "trained" him for a manager role, anything he's "learned", anyone he would like to "learn from" or anything like that. Seems to have been born with all the knowledge he needs.

Can't find anyone other than him saying that he deserves a shot either, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place.

Les Ferdinand seems to have been a disaster for QPR and makes constantly stupid decisions, so it wouldn't surprise me if he hired Sol.

i imagine it will be more like

“I have a vision for me and I hope your players can match my ambition and play to the standard I expect. If they’re good enough to be managed by me they will not require coaching, just 100%focus and belief. If they are not good enough I hope your transfer budget meets my expectations and if you’re a good chairman you will buy me the players I need to make me successful and take me to the level I belong otherwise you are wasting my time and I can do a whole lot better than QPR. By the way Les, why didn’t you vote for me to be London Mayor? “
