Didn’t realise his goal return was that good, but in my opinion the problem seems to be that when he comes back he struggles to receive the ball with his back to their goal. He gives up possession far too often. whether that’s because of a lack of awareness or a lack of control or a combination of both
Maybe the answer is not giving him the ball unless he’s running forward?
Yeah I've noticed this too. Dier gave him a massive bollocking after he tried to be clever with his back to goal and got done by 2 Boro players which led to them getting a chance.

It's a definite area of weakness, but I think it's something he can work on and at times his flicks in midfield with his back to goal have led to us scoring some nice goals, so it's not like he never gets right. I think the problem is he often wants to take touches when he would be better of just laying off the ball first time. Lacazette has been doing this extremely well for Arsenal recently (the prick) - just simple one touch passes back to the midfielders as he doesn't have the skill or strength to hold the ball up like a conventional target man - and he's got a ton of assists as a result.

Either way, I don't think dropping Son is the solution so fingers crossed Conte works on this area of his game closely in training and he is able to improve it.

I think you're dead right about Son's recent form, but weirdly it almost confirms how good a player he is that, in spite of his recent dodgy performances, he's still managed to get 11 attacking returns in 12 games.

I think it's absolutely legitimate to point out that Son's been a bit off it lately, but I maintain that anyone who actually wants to drop him is outright wrong. Even an in-form Bergwijn would be lucky to get half the attacking returns of an off-form Son. This team NEEDS Son's goals and assists, so we just have to accept that he's not always going to be at his scintillating best and be happy that he's still scoring in spite of that.

and thats fair enough and all very valid points, which i also think i made in my post. it was the sniping that annoys me, not an issue with any valid debate with someone.

personally there are pros & cons to maybe giving sonny a rest or a kick up the backside for a game or two. pros - it shows he's not undroppable and may force him to up his game, cons we may miss the linkup between him and harry, but i stand by my point he's been poor and that myself or others who point out these things are not laying groundwork for scapegoating or have shit in their eyes.

It was nice having match analysis without Neville, who spends all his time using Sky, as a platform, for all things united. No shame whatsoever.
I find every Arsenal pundit in every form of media does the same. No matter who is playing, where or the score, they find some way to mention fking Arsenal. Gets on my tits.
Some twat on TS did it today, 'everyone loses games, unless you're the invincibles.' We're talking about Everton against Spurs and you sqeezed Arsenal into the conversation. Fuck off.

I feel we took our eye off the ball when we had a few games in hand on them. I also feel it’s a little too late to challenge Arsenal , they look very strong for 4th.

I hope I’m wrong.
I’m not so sure. They still have to go to Chelsea, who are a bit of a bogey team for them, and WHU and come to ours.

While their last 3 games on paper look easy I think by May they might not be in reality. Leeds @ home by then will be much more organized under March and will have their spine of Cooper, Philips and Bamford back. Newcastle away is against a team rejuvenated. Everton @ home on the last day is either against a team fighting for survival or against players playing for their future.
There’s still a lot to play for and we are in with as good a shot as they are given that now Conte has pretty much established his first 11 and like them lot we have no other distractions. Nevertheless it’s very important we beat them whenever the game is. The winner will have a huge psychological advantage.

I have to agree it’s possible although your assumption is in their hands whereas I don’t believe we can go to the end of the season unbeaten which I feel we need to do and that would include beating them. both Utd games are massive for them as much as us.
