Great teams generate that confidence from the back...those are the foundations that matter the most.

We're without doubt a title winning attack and this season is wide open.

Had we a really solid defense I'd think we'd win the league at a canter this season.

I'm sure it's been mentioned elsewhere but we're able to make 5 subs in the Europa League now as well as name 23 players on our team sheet.

"Five substitutions

The UEFA Executive Committee also decided to allow up to five substitutions for all matches played in the UEFA Nations League, the European Qualifiers play-offs, the UEFA Women’s EURO Qualifiers, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League as from the group stage, and the UEFA Women’s Champions League, for the remainder of the season, in order to alleviate the burden on players caused by the condensed 2020/21 international match calendar amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Consequently, the number of players permitted on the match sheet will be increased to 23, when this is not already the case."

I’ve just noticed we’ve 3 games next week. Burnley on Monday, Antwerp on Thursday and Brighton on Sunday. So there will have to be rotation then.

It would be very good to win and finish with a clean sheet. The defense needs good performances to regain confidence.
Spurs 5 (2 Kane, 1 Vinicius, 1 Lamela, 1 Reguilon)
Lask 0

I don't think it is the fear of success. But I agree it is mental, more specifically the confidence in the defence. A leader in defence who oozes calm. Once we have that, when we score, we know we will win.
I am confident Jose will find that defender.
After the strengthening this summer, I reckon the squad is back to the position where it just needs one or two additions each year to keep us competitive. But they have to be top quality, no messing about additions. It’s central defence that is now our weakest link and hopeful Joe Rodon will help to address that. But if we go all out and spend big on a Skriniar, Upamecano or Koulibali in Jan then we will be seriously rocking. They won’t come cheap obviously but that’s all we need now. I’d prefer that than signing another 4 wingers at 20m each. COYS!!

Let's have a solid defensive performance, clean sheet and a Bale hattrick. That's all I LASK for....

LASK will play football with us. They put 5 past Sporting Lisbon in qualifiers and didn't park the bus vs. United in the knockout stages last season. for that reason I'd love to see Vinicius and Bale.

This is on CBS all access for those in the US. Another streaming service to sign up to. They're offering a free 1 week free trial. Otherwise $5.99 a month

Also for free in Spanish on UniMas stations. We have one locally that's included in basic cable/DirecTV packages. It's kind of fun, the announcers go CoCo happy when Lamela plays.

I want the complete annihilation of LASK.
I am still absolutely seething with Sunday’s result, so a shitty performance here is going to piss me off even more.

LASK are a very decent team and capable of scoring a lot of goals. They wont be a walkover. We have to be careful and take this very seriously.

Just to add to this point. Results they have got recently in europe.

Sporting 4-1 win
Sporting 3-0 win
PSV 3-0 win

They topped their group last year, in a group with Sporting and PSV. They did lose 5-0 against man utd. But 3 of there goals were very late and didn't really represent the game. Again. A decent team, not at all walkovers and by far the toughest opponent in our group.

That's not how football works mate. We are better than them, but I repeat, they are a decent team. 3 late goals against utd in the last 16 doesn't suddenly make them crap. We have to treat it seriously.

there is no easy game but if we avoid a dangerous lead and remember that we take one game at a time then we just need one goal.

I haven't written a single word about the West Ham match since halftime. I've read everyone else shaking their heads and talking about "putting it behind us" and "bad day at the office" and "work in progress" and "lessons for the future".

I think it has every possibility of being a season-destroying 10 minutes, even a 10-minute period that wrecks Mourinho's entire strategy at Tottenham, leading to his departure. I don't believe for a minute his guff that the squad really has developed the level of mental strength that he has been working to create. They're shitting themselves and so is he. I reckon he's asking himself whether he's signed on to try to create a winning mentality in an environment where it is historically impossible to do so.

I'll obviously be thrilled to be proved wrong, but I reckon those 10 minutes of football set us right back to where we were a year ago and deeply undermined the squad's confidence in itself and in their manager. Let's see what happens, not tomorrow, but the next time we meet a motivated Premiership side.

You can't go from the level of brilliance we demonstrated in the first half to a 3-3 result without seriously doubting whether you have what it takes to win. It's called "fear of success". Look it up.

It's entirely possible but a lot of this squad went through similar almost soul destroying reverses under Poch and found a way to claw back.

We'll see.

Title winning expectations have always seemed very unrealistic for me. However, the one positive is no one can defend right now out of the top teams, and results have been strange and inconsistent from the big teams everywhere in Europe. This season will throw a lot of awkward results.

But, yes, we must focus on the game today. I would take a win of any kind. But, I want to see a motivated performance.

I genuinely think one results effect on confidence is overstated. It's when a pattern emerges where it becomes worrying, or a string of bad performances. I hope the players are annoyed and angry about it, but can still see the positives in how we can rip teams to shreds almost at will. The issue against west ham was complacency, from the whole team in the entire second half. People weren't tracking back properly, and we were treating it like a training ground exercise. This more than 'bad defending' was the biggest problem for me. We need to be clever, sure, but we need to have intensity for 90 minutes, regardless of the opposition and regardless of the score. Today that's what we need to see.

Although a top quality CB like Skriniar should be our priority, I would love to also add another CM, as our backups (Winks, Sissoko) are not really up to it. Hopefully Skipp can become competition for Hojbjerg next season.
