If we played this game under Pochettino we'd have 'had a go' and got swept aside 3 or 4 nil rather than have any chance at nicking a point and quite easily all 3.

Don’t know why you feel a need to take a pop at Poch anyway but your statement has absolutely zero evidence to back it up. We’ve NEVER been swept aside by Liverpool under Poch. Why make shit up?

Mourinho on Tanganga
“I thought he did well. I think the kid has reason to be happy with his level. His first game in the Premier League and he did amazing. First with Mane and then Salah. I don’t want to take credit from that. I only worked with him for a couple of months. Credit goes to the academy who worked with him and it’s a message to those other players in the academy.”

“The last thing I want to do after this performance is talking about [new] players. It’s disrespectful to these players. Can we say Tanganga is a new player? He showed he can play in the Premier League. It’s a shame he’s not a striker or a midfielder. I think Mane and Salah know who Tanganga is now.”

The master of motivation has spoken. This should help Tanganga as well as the Academy players.

He knows what's wrong.

It's not a dig at Poch per se it's just that he and Mourinho happen to approach games differently. With the context being as it was today, us being depleted, Liverpool at their best if we'd tried to dominate possession then they'd have picked us off with ease and they'd have killed the game getting two goals ahead. It would have been like the Bayern game.

Yes we might have sneaked a draw if one of those late chances had gone in, but in reality Liverpool were hardly out of 2nd gear . Could have been a lot worse but the thing that bothers me is that for the last few games we don’t seem to have any recognisable way of playing. It’s as if the players have no faith in what they are being asked to do.
Never thought I would say we missed Sissoko but we definitely do. Only one who can drive up the pitch.
Really no point persevering with Eriksen. He was getting stickoff the crowd for that joke of a performance. Deserved it.
Skip would add some guts and courage to that midfield . How can he possibly be any worse than Eriksen.
I think Carragher was right when he said that this team is done. Big changes needed .
Levy is no fool. He must realise that this project is going down the pan without some serious money being spent.
Despite what people might say I expect him to do it.

A lot of people thought we would get battered in this match. I thought we showed a lot of resistance against the best side around despite our limitations. Was surpised but overwelmingly pleased that JT got to start and showed he can cope. Seems to have a massive future and could become a favourite of mine. If we had taken one of those chances and got a draw it could have been felt the game plan was successful. I cant see it as entirely unsuccessful, I think its something we can build on.

Exactly. We could have signed 2 players in their team (Mane and Wijnaldum) as we were in the CL at the time and Liverpool weren't. Couldn't even get Grealish over the line when Villa weren't promoted. Getting him on board would have reduced our vulnerability to the shambles the Eriksen situation developed into.

Just look at Leicester, a couple of smart, sensible and not overly expensive signings in Maddison and Tielemans really kicked them on a level. We were right there, Poch kept calling for new signings, a new cycle, a new chapter but we didn't strike when the iron was hot so there we are with a shiny new stadium but a shell of a team to watch in it.

Always hurts to lose. But we need to build on this. The best performance in a while. Defense looked more solid. Created chances.
Gives me some hope for the upcoming games.
I bit more luck we could have nicked a point.

He was getting dogs abuse with every pass he misplaced or tussle he lost. The reaction when he was subbed off was just the grand finale.

Personally I didn't think he was that bad, considering he was asked to play a cm2 in a largely bus park tactic. It wasn't an overly effective performance, yeah there were times when he was too weak, he didn't always put his foot in, that's always been the case though even in his best times. I thought he stuck to his task by and large though and tried to sit in front of the defence - it wasn't like he was caught at will ahead of the ball having gone and joined the attack etc.

I don't think many see it that way though, but then he has zero credit in the bank. And I'm struggling to see how he plays for us again if the crowd have finally really turned on him. That was as bad if not worse than Ghaly's reception from a few years back.

One of his passes when he was under no pressure at all and he tried to flick the ball into the path of maybe Moura and gave the ball away when he had time to compose himself, naaaaaa. I know hes not gonna put his foot in or go for headers, he has never done that, so when he cant be bothered or has no conviction with the passes....naaaaaaa. Dont start him in games.

Is it just me?

The comments I've read seem pretty satisfied with today. How is it possible to be satisfied when.....
- we had 33% possession in a home match
- for the first 75 minutes the only time we competed for the ball was in, or on the edge of, our own box
- they had the time to do exactly what they wanted with the ball with virtually no pressure from us
- the only 'attacking' idea that we had was a hopeful punt upfield

I've read and heard that we deserved a point. Did we fuck. We parked the bus for 75 minutes and only when we were getting desperate (and two subs came on) did we even try to compete higher up the pitch and try to play some football.

Audere est facere?

Not today.

Maybe in the context of being largely shite for the last year? or having loads of injuries? or playing arguably the best team in world football right now?
Maybe you haven't been paying attention.

Context.

You can defend Mourinho's tactics without having to make up fact-free bollocks about Poch's time at Spurs. You have zero idea what might have happened in this game under Poch especially as our recent record against Liverpool (under Poch) suggest the complete fucking opposite.

It was the best since the first 40 minutes against Bayern.

This. Best performance all season. And I include those opening 30/40 minutes against Bayern as well where we should’ve blown the floor underneath them but couldn’t score.

Agree. Klopp wasnt having a fuckin paddy on the side of the pitch because they were sitting comfortably and looked like they could score at will.
We played as a team today. Yes Alli was poor again, coming deep is not what he does, and Eriksen is a busted flush so shouldnt have started but Lamela, Lo Celso, Moura and Son gave everything.
Winks was ok as well, suffering from being asked to do something thats not his game but was ok.
Sanchez and Toby did ok as did Tanganga, impressive performance. The 2 situations where Liverpool had 3 players lining up at the back post was inexcusable though. But a new defensive line up takes time.
