"The rebuild" began last summer, when we acquired Ndombele, Lo Celso and Sessegnon.

We have a few players whose pace and fitness have faded a few years earlier than one might have expected: Wanyama, Vertonghen and Rose being the obvious examples. Winks is learning to play with chronic pain. Dier was chronically ill and is struggling to get back to full fitness. We sold Trippier without replacing him, leaving us with only one right back, who prefers attacking to defending. Our sweeper-goalkeeper has been injured for months, which has capsized our defensive formation.

"The rebuild" could have started a year earlier and we would still have had these problems. We've been in transition. We're having a bit of a lost season. There's nothing especially significant about signing Gedson and Bergwijn last month. It wasn't panic buying or a "rebuild", it was just the usual business of buying talented players in their early 20s who will probably be assets in future seasons, when they have accustomed themselves to English football.

As Lo Celso has now visibly done.

Ok, then it feels like we started a rebuild proper now.
Im not sure the club knew what was coming last summer when ndombele, sess and lo celso was bought.
None of these three played any big part in the first few months of the season.
"eriksen-jan-toby"-situastion was ongoing. Rose was sulking.
Now we have fixed things with toby.
Eriksen is gone.
Rose is gone.
Everyone can see that Jan is not the player he once was (though i still feels he can contribute).

Woke up thinking it might be a good day today.

We are due a win in the league over the top sides. Been a while. Chelsea at home last year was the last one? The Man Utd loss at home was kind of the beginning of the end of our season last year. Battered them yet somehow lost 1-0 and we never really got back on track after that.
Just think City know the league is gone and they won't be 100%. Albeit still dangerous. But I can see them losing 3-4 more games this season.

The assets you refer to David are they what the club see as commodities to sell on for big profit at a later date rather than part of something longer term.

We need to keep an eye on mahrez. He’s on top form and always plays well against us.

From an attacking point of view. I hope Mourinho has rewatched the champions league game there last season when Son and Lucas ran them ragged first half. Play like that from kick off (we won’t) and we’ve a chance.

It won’t matter anyway. Mike Dean is ref so we’ve lost before a ball is kicked.

To have any chance we need Sonny and Dele to step up today.

They’ve been passengers for too long.

Sad if true & I'd play him instead Lamela, although I'd play 3 at the back & 5 in mid-field.

I actually think we're probably good value for the draw today - Jose has definitely made us harder to beat lately and with City likely having most of the ball and territory, I can see us scoring a goal on the break which of course suits our current squad given we don't have a striker.

City have been creaking a bit this season and aren't quite the intimidating powerhouse they were last year - obviously still very good but they have slipped up a good few times. The Jose team is starting to come together and this could be a good time for us over the last few weeks of the season - I don't see loads of comfortable wins coming, but I do see a general improvement and platform being laid for next season.
