Remember those games under Poch in 14/15 where it was clear that given some time and a player or two we were going to be quality? This was that, Jose edition
The twists and turns of sport. Lets be honest City weren't cutting through us at will, but they did have numerous chances and we largely survived on quite a lot of luck. But we hung in there and when the momentum and atmosphere shifted with that red card we struck whilst they were vulnerable and reorganising. Great goal out of very little from Bergwijn and we took full advantage of the wind being in our sails with the second shortly after that put us in the driving seat.
As I say, yes it was lucky but if you somehow manage to stay in games eventually you will get your spell and it's whether you can take advantage of it. Against Liverpool we didn't quite manage it, today we very much did.
Wow art imitating lifeThey said on commentary it was just a thing him and his mates did when playing fifa. No real meaning.
Yea but that was the gameplan set traps and hit them on the break, it worked.Sadly wasn't able to see the game. Kinda looks like the result flatter us from seing the stats. Great win nevertheless
Both Liverpool's season and today's result prove that goals are the only stat that matters though: they trump posession stats all day, every day. (With apologies to @Bus-Conductor's departed soul.)To be honest I know this will sound silly but I think City are by far and away the best team in the league. Even with 10 men we couldn’t get near them. Just like at the Ethihad how they didn’t score 4 or 5 only they will know. Liverpool are the complete opposite, they seem to score with every half chance they create but don’t dominate teams.
I absolutely loved that. That is what a captain means to me. He always got my criticism for being so soft during Poch's reign. I think Mourinho got him hardened up. His mentality now is so top, which is just astonishing so soon after he came back from that nasty injury.Somehow amongst all of that, one of my fave bits was seeing Hugo go absolutely mental at Sterling after the penalty save and resulting altercation. He was proper fired up and squaring up to Sterling - don’t think I’ve ever seen Hugo like that. Got a right buzz out of that and Toby lifting the single tier stand
Mourinho doesn't even mention NDombeles name. Ive supported Mourinho with us but I think he is missing something
