I only saw the highlights, but we were actually a 433 against Villas 451? Winks was required to be the playmaker in the centre, and the front three (as Shearer made the simple point of) we're all in each others way. I remember it being the same against Brighton last season.

Soon as we switched to 451 ourselves, with Tanguy dropping to the pivot, Lucas and Lamela wide and Eriksen coming into his usual Enganche role, we go and score 3 goals in 15 mins.

Come on Poche. Try those things in the league cup. Not the competition you're actually trying to win.

Thought KWP looked good attacking down the right. City will be a big test of his defensive capabilities, but I think in games like Villa where they have a packed defence and we need to break then down, he could really grow into that attacking FB role.

There was just zero movement by the attackers. They were stationary most of the game and especially in the first half. When it’s like that, it’s always been a problem for us for years.

Come on, spill the beans...

I was whistling really loudly at their keeper's time wasting and the guy turned to his son and called me a ****. Then turned to me and asked if it was really necessary to whistle.

I smiled and replied, "Yes, how else will the ref hear me otherwise?"

I was disappointed in Ndombele until he scored and then he seemed to come alive and start playing with confidence.
I'm prolly gonna draw some flack here but Sissoko too. In the final 3rd of the pitch he is atrocious at passing to a team mate or shooting.

I sit right behind the Spurs bench.
The sweat pouring off Lamela when he came off was amazing. He really does put in a shift.
Ndombele looked super happy. Really warm congrats for him from our squad.
Eriksen before he came on just watched the game really intently. Like super studying it. Everybody else is distracted at moments but not him. He’s just really focused and intelligent so he knew the moment he came on, what Villa were doing to stop us and what to do about it.
Lo Celso was a bit the same too. Very calm yet focused, taking it all in.

Does anyone know if there’s a clip floating about of winks pirouette and bit of skill he did during the game?

On a side note, through the tv the atmosphere sounded incredible. Don’t know whether sky had high pitch-side levels on their mics but last season it still sounded a bit like Wembley, fans still in awe or getting used to their surroundings, but yesterday felt like white hart lane for the first time. Lots of singing and getting after the Villa players and encouragement for ours. Good stuff.

Can’t wait to visit for the first time against Newcastle

Post match presser: Looking happy

Journalists are dicks though aren’t they? That one at the end trying to trip Poch up and make out Poch said Kane came back over weight when Poch said nothing of the sort. It was obviosu he was talking generally about footballers and being ready for preseason, not harry or probably anyone at spurs, just in football at large.

Wishing Jan a quick recovery. Glad to see him in the stands last night. Was fearing that he was off

So honest from him to admit getting his tactics wrong in the first half. I can’t imagine many other managers coming out, holding their hands up and saying they got their tactics wrong.

He got them regularly wrong last season too though and we had to change them. A bit concerning it’s still happening. At least he rectifies it but how many times did we throw away points last season because of it.

Don't know if anyone remembers but this reminded me of a match under Redknapp when we played Sunderland, think it was 2010, and we played a diamond and we were fecking awful for the most part until he changed it, ended up winning 2-0 I think. He actually came out after the match and blamed himself funnily enough.

When are we gonna move the player threads back into the main forum? Seems a bit ridiculous that I can comment on Kane and not KWP for example. He's obviously not moving anywhere so no need for any ITK talk, what's the deal?

Rewatched he match and that diamond formation is an absolute shocker, Ndombele and Sisokko were receiving the ball so wide they were blocking off runs from Walker-Peters and Rose.

As soon as we moved to 4-2-3-1 you could see Ndombele getting his foot on the ball in the right areas. Pleased that Pochettino and the coaches saw the issues the formation was causing.

Sisokko playing out wide as part of the 3 looked clueless, however as soon as Winks went off and he moved to the middle his drive from midfield caused Villa problems.
