Saw this on Twitter just, and it makes quite a lot of sense, but why do the junior sides not play the same setup as the first team, to prepare the players should they step up, make sure they can at least step into a familiar system with familiar demands.
Probably because managers come and go so quickly. How long will Conte be here

Got bored of saying it over the last decade, but for me it’s all about consistent approach and methodology.

Yep agree with the reply, ideally the tail shouldn’t be wagging the dog. We see from Poch to Mourinho to Conte all playing differently and just telling the youth teams to play how the temporary first team guy wants his team to doesn’t strike me as a recipe for success. Ideally you want your club to have their own way of playing, taught through the ranks, and your choice(s) of first team coach reflects this. Especially if you’re serious and not just paying lip service to young player/academy development and getting them into the first team.

One thing that seems to have been a problem with our academy is that every time things seem to get rolling, the majority of our "star" coaching staff are pinched, whether it's by the money teams or lower league teams looking to elevate them into more senior roles etc.

Not sure what the solution is there, but clearly we need talented and stable coaching staff at that level to create an environment where kids properly feel part of something in the long run...

Likewise with the coaching, it is about having a methodology and formulating something that can be passed on. Deciding as a club how you want to play, getting the tactical principles and ideas enshrined, the types of training exercises that can be used to develop young kids in this style, etc etc etc. Taking all the ideas, knowledge and intellectual stuff and putting it together into something that can be taught and repeatedly passed on and a base for prospective coaches to work from. Most clubs utterly neglect this sort of thing, but your Barca’s, Ajax, maybe the Red Bull teams are best at coach development presently, have actual blueprints and so a conveyor belt of coaches that develop and then given the opportunity to either work at the club or go out into the wider football world.

not really its because you are developing them as individuals and not as components in a Team - you are not looking to bring them forward within a framework you are looking at individuals ability to be able to play no matter what system and in different positions -

You would imagine that clubs should be doing this anyway, never mind who the manager is.
The question was...why are the youth teams not playing 3 at the back because the first team do so at the moment.
At the moment we have a rookie under 18 coach, one full season, and Wayne Burnett for under 21 team whose reviews from youth watchers have not been particularly good.
As we will be in the uefa youth lge this season there will be good opportunities to see what level our players are at.

I think the point is that your looking to develop players despite the system that might be used and ones that can adapt to a variety of systems - though primarily you are looking to develop footballers for your own club you also have a responsibility to develop the boys as players who can adapt and play elsewhere - you could argue that the best ones will always be able to do that anyway - as for the managers its almost an irrelevance at these levels its more of a club ethos or a number of different coaches across the club that are looking at the boys development

Former academy players Renaldo Torraj and Jez Davies are both on trial at Chelsea with Jez scoring twice tonight in their development squads 4-2 win at Borehamwood.

Just watched the last half hour and we were dreadful got beat 3-1

Etete missed what looked a generous penalty by yards - we attempted to play the ball out but were overwhelmed by Orient who could have had a few more one of their players was unlucky and looked to hit the bar from a free kick inside his own half

its hard to tell watching it on youtube but that looked pretty poor to me

Watched a bit of yesterdays game Orients tv service failed completely for most of the game which was a shame as apparently Spurs started the game quite well and took the lead - by the time pictures were available about the last half hour albeit from a single camera so following the game was difficult Spurs were 2-1 down and Orient were totally dominant.

I guess you have to bear in mind its pre season and the O's are a committed 4th Division side (in old money) and likely to be more physical than what the Spurs lads might usually play against having a typical for the division mixture of old pros and a few younger players. Spurs as you might expect wanted to play the ball out from the back but it was so ineffective Orient put them under pressure and so often if ended up with Spurs losing the ball or regularly putting the ball out for a throw which just invited more pressure as Orient had a guy who was able to launch a long throw into the box (which the 3rd goal came from and they had at least 2 other good chances that they should have scored from created similarly) I don't think once we managed to beat the press in the half hour it was on live we never at any point had a period of controlled procession.

It was a really disappointing performance over powered which you can accept if some of the football was there but from that viewing it wasn't . Its never fair to go through the side and in all honesty it was difficult because the camera angle made picking out individuals hard though I would have to say the keeper Gunter who has big reviews needs to work on his distribution on that showing ps Antony Georgiou played for the O's and we made him look pretty useful

For those of a masochistic persuasion here is what Orient managed to show yesterday

You’d basically only leave West Ham for Leeds for money. I’d guess playing opportunity isn’t much different. Unless he was just desperate to get out of West Ham.
