Tanganga Alderweireld Rodon Reguilon
Hojbjerg Ndombele
Lo Celso Lucas Son
Kane

Would love to see this, but impossible to predict Jose any more.
This is the team I would pick. Might be harsh on Sanchez but Toby should start against United so get him a game next to Rodon beforehand.

Shamelessly stolen from @Bulletspur

Lloris ??

Aurier ------ Sanchez ?? ------ Rodon ??????? ------ Tanganga ???????

Hojbjerg ?? ---- Ndombele ??

Bale ??????? ------ Lucas ?? ------- Son ??

Kane ???????

Reports that Davies, Doherty and Reguillon are all unavailable for Sunday. Will probably mean that Cirkin and another youngster will be named to the bench.

End of last season Mourinho said Cirkin was fantastic and had a big part to play this year, so maybe a place on the bench v Newcastle is it.

I wouldn't be putting Lo Celso out wide, personally. I'd go with:

Lloris

Aurier Sanchez Alderweireld Reguilon

Hojbjerg Ndombele

Lucas Lo Celso Son

Kane

Don't normally get involved in this team selection lark. You're probably about to see why :finger:..

Assuming Reguilon is back & fit enough to start...

Lloris

Tanganga, Alderweireld, Rodon, Reguilon

Lo Celso, Hojbjerg, NDombele

Lucas, Kane, Son.

If/when Lo Celso is knackered after an hour, replace with Lamela.

If Lo Celso looks like he could do 90, and Mourinho still can't resist the urge to not allow NDombele to complete 90 PL minutes. Replace NDombele with Lamela.

With the returning of Son, let's ease the lad back in, rather than instantly overload his blatantly tired hamstrings. Give him an hour & replace with Bale.

If Son/Mourinho don't feel that starting him is the best option, simply switch & give Bale the hour, then replace with Son.

And then, if the unthinkable happens, and we're actually sitting on a decent lead & looking comfortable ( ), give Lucas a rest for the last 20 minutes and replace him with Dele.

Pfft. £15M a season.

Lo Celso should not be anywhere near the right wing. He is a CM. I know Moura has been netter centrally, but I'd still swap the two of them if we playing a 3 man CM.

If Reguilon is injured then go for Aurier at RB with Tanganga LB.

I think Newcastle is one of those games where you can get away without a 3rd midfielder. I think going forward we need to strike a balance between knowing what games we can put more forwards on and what games we need 3 midfielders in order to have better protection for the defence.

I would try and keep the team as similar as possible to the team we played against Villa. Although we didn’t start the game great we controlled the last 70 mins, were solid at the back and in midfield and dangerous going forward. To drop any ofwould be harsh but for me and as much as I like Lo Celso he’s not suited to having to come in from the wing. With Son being fit this would be my only change. Aurier would offer us a more attacking threat but Tanganga had a very good game against Villa and deserves to keep his spot.

Tanganga, Rodin and Vinicius all played well against villa so deserve to keep their places this week

Forgot about Rodon to be honest, would like to see him start again, preferably next to someone more experienced and calm like Alderweireld. Not too fussed as to who starts between Tanganga and Aurier, if Reguilon can indeed take his place at LB. Admittedly there are others I'd prefer to see starting over Vinicius though.

I totally agree for a number of reasons:

Im a firm believer of keeping a winning side broadly the same

Vinny worked his socks off against Villa and played really well. we need to keep that momentum with him as I get the feeling he is a confidence player.

That workrate up top relieves Kane to an extent so we aren't relying on him to do several jobs at once that may increase his chances of (1) getting injured and (2) lose a focal point up top when he drops deep. That is also where Kane is currently most effective, much to the contrary to England fans and pundit views.

Two uptop (kinda) enables Moura and Son (or various others) to work the flank whilst keeping our shape. When Kane drops deep i think we lose our shape as moura or son cover that space. Whilst that has its advantages i think we end up lacking in players in advanced positions.

So yeah (as Bale would say) that's what I think.

Lloris
Tanganga Sanchez Rodon Reguilon
Højbjerg
Ndombele Lo Celso
Bale----Kane-----Son
I think this is the way forward. Possibly aurier instead of Tanganga.
and maybe Lucas ahead of bale.
but otherwise this shape allows us to dominate possession and to sit deep and spring counters

Jose also reported that Sergio Reguilon ‘is ready’ after being forced off in the second half of our 2-0 win at Villa last time out. Erik Lamela is also available after being suspended for Villa.
