As someone else points out, this will be Liverpool's third game in a week and they've had slightly less recovery time.

Dembele must continue in the ten position, his strength and power to retain pressure up field will be massive in a difficult arena. Night games at Anfield really light the atmosphere. Townsend just doesn't have the defensive nous for a game like this, not by a long shot. Personally I think we'd be mad to change too much from yesterday given Liverpool's schedule and if Lucas doesn't make it for them that's a huge blow for their midfield.

We've a clear week to recuperate after this.

Substitutions could be important, Chadli and Stambouli etc. I'd persist with Lamela as his work rate is really impressing. We might need to make a few changes after 60/70 minutes but I'd leave as it is. Too many changes would alter the dynamic IMO and we're finally seeing the high intensity consistently.

Lloris

Walker
Dier
Vertonghen
Rose

Bentaleb
Mason

Lamela
Dembele
Eriksen

Kane

Subs: Vorm, Fazio, Davies, Stambouli, Paulinho, Chadli, Soldado

I think Stambouli may come in for Mason, had lots of injury problems in the past and was pictured with his ankle in ice after the game. We need to be careful and keep him fresh for the remainder of the season. Rest of the starting team the same for me.

Same team as against Arsenal for me please
Agreed, the team that beat the scum have earned a starting birth at Anfield to a man

If we win again up there then the season really will be getting interesting

A win here would be enough to take Liverpool out of the equation for the rest of the season. I hope the players will be up for this after getting spanked so much by them recently. This should be treated like a derby game for that reason. Poch won at Anfield with Southampton last season btw, despite Suarez and Sturridge playing!

I wouldn't have Townsend anywhere near this one.
I differ on this, as Liverpool play 3 at the back, and wing back. We will need to press at the wings and Townsend will be suited for this. Dembele starts in the number 10. Same as yesterday, with Townsend in for Lamela and stambouli for mason.

Agreed. I also don't think Mason is quite up two games in a week just yet - there was a really big drop-off in performance between Sheffield Utd and West Brom for him.

Plus, I doubt Liverpool will be as cowardly as our dear neighbours were yesterday - they're going to come at us so we could probably do with a being a little bit tighter through the middle.

I'd play Townsend too, I think. Suspect it will get pretty stretched and he offers us a different dimension in terms of pace to try and run at that dodgy defence.

Surely the same two CBs should be able to cope with 2 games in a short period of time, they don't cover the ground those in front of them did.

Plus surely it's more beneficial keeping the same 2 as often as possible, thats how partnerships are developed and thats one place you want 2 players wiv a good understanding.

Yup, Jan has said precisely that before. Although, it is in his best interests to say that, obviously...;)

I wouldn't start Townsend, but I'd definately promote him to the bench, in place of Davies (Verts left back in emergency) Sakho looks poor and if we're chasing the game, Andros would get at him. Same with Can on the other side.

And Lamela won't? The way Moreno pushes up we'll want a RW who can tackle. I'd leave Lamela in.

didn't realise we don't have a game at the weekend, no real reason not to go with the same again then. i wouldn't grumble at davies for rose or chad for lamela though.

Really don't think starting Townsend is a good idea. He doesn't have the defensive nous for a game like this, he's very shy with defensive work rate. Could be a good option from the bench if we're chasing but not to start.
