I honestly don’t think we’ll do anything in the January window. In the summer window I think we need the same thing we’ve needed since Poch was hired to coach here. A Hazzard type player. Somebody that can go by people with the ball at their feet. Somebody that can create space for Eriksen and Alli to operate in just by their mere presence on the pitch. Martins. Pulisic. Bailey. There are lots of options for us to choose from. I don’t care who, I just want one of them. I really think that player is the last piece of the puzzle that takes us from contenders to champions.

Think he’s gone beyond bubbling under. Has to £40-50m player now. At that money would be a massive risk, I’d feel a bit dirty paying that for him.
Well the rumour is the contract he signed last summer has a clause in it which has been described as with in our reach...

To be honest it might have been the last piece in the last couple of years, but City will only get better under Pep. We're going to need more to challenge them, as well as settling into the new stadium quickly and making it a real fortress.

Sign of the times, we gotta pay to stay competitive, the Sanchez signing proved that we're willing to spend money providing it's the right player.

It is a lot of money but these dirty prices pretty much started when the EPL was formed and has got worse, trouble is you either succumb to it and compete or you don't that's the reality.

Do we really need Zaha ?

Most weeks we don't play the type of counter attacking football that isolates players like Zaha against defenders, which is what you need to do to make them really effective. So most weeks we already have players like Eriksen, Alli, Son, Lamela that suit the way we play most weeks better. And if you don't play Zaha every week, he's not going to enjoy his football and you won't get the best out of him when he does play anyway.

We already have Nkoudou, who brings exactly the same skill set as Zaha, just four years younger Zaha. And if we want something else different on our bench we could start putting Edwards on there, he's already more intelligent in terms of his final ball decision making than Zaha who hasn't got a single assist to his name this season.

And when we have played cuunter attacking football (Real Madrid eg) we proved that you don't need what Zaha has to kill teams off.

He's a threat, the way he puts defenders on the back foot reminds me of Hazard when defenders back off him when he dribbles.

We need to move heaven and earth to sign him, he'll totally transform the way we'll attack and open up spaces for the likes of Eriksen, Kane and Alli.

He's a quantum level below Hazard in terms of his intelligence. And even his dribbling is technically nowhere near as sure footed as Hazard's.

I love signing the up and comers like Alli because achievements feel that more special.

However at some point we are going to need to a hefty chunk towards a "superstar" player. Someone who can take us up another level. We have so many excellent components but when you're competing with the money clubs I can't help but feel we won't overcome them until we do. I wish it was different because we do a lot of things the right way and I do believe the sport should be about development and building a team within your means, unfortunately it's just not a level playing field.

TBF we have tried. Even with Utd's money they struggle to sign the players they want as you need to wait for the right player.

When ready-made players of the right quality are available wealthier and more attractive clubs than us will put in a bid.

We've splashed out on Sissoko and Soldado and they were both big money signings and in their prime but flopped massively.

If you read through the Wanyama thread before we bought him many thought he was a donkey and nothng but a lump.

We need to lose the ego and stop writing every player off. The likes of Mahrez or Zaha could be really good for us.

You must have missed this assist last week. Receives the ball standing still with three men in front of him. Beats his man and then picks out his teammate in the box.

I've seen nothing from Nkoudou to suggest he can get to that level. He doesn't poses the elite combination of speed and strength that Zaha has.

I was definitely on the fence with Zaha but I think he could be a good fit for us.

He is good in tight spaces to create out of nothing. Could be really useful.

Yeah I agree on the Mahrez, Zaha part.

Whilst Sissoko and Soldado were both big money signings neither of them were considered that next level kind of player I'm talking about.

It's obviously an extremely difficult transfer to pull off given our financial constraints and the fact that we aren't as big a pull as some other clubs, and we are absolutely doing things the right way. It's just I believe a bona-fide star needs to be signed before we win a title. Sadly.

So who do you think we could realistically get?

Messi and Ronaldo aside Soldado was the top scorer in Spain over a number of seasons. Less said about Sissoko the better.

We tried and failed or Hazard and Willian before they went to Chelsea.

Honestly think Bale is our only hope for a big signing and it is risky and probably unrealistic.

I know it's unrealistic! That's my point!!
