Do you know what a board is? Do you Know who's on our board and whatthey do? And why they should be sacked?

In lieu of any serious debate, this thread is now about Paul Mahorn.

Dunno mate I never called for them to be sacked did I, ironic I get called out for 'spazzing' out when the posters comdemning me can't even read properly

Seemingly prepared to back the team with money when things are going wrong, but when we achieve their objective it's job done, close shop.

I agree, I remember when we got 5th but sold Carrick and bought Zokora. Jol said the team wasn't good enough for 4th place to the press, but was forced to retract that statement and put one on the official site saying that we were good enough. Just like last season all we needed was an average striker, and we didn't get any in whilst lesser clubs identified and bough better players.

Chelsea and City have completely changed the UK footballing landscape with their vast wealth. They would never have been in this position if they were properly run, as they were both days away from financial meltdown, which then resulted in a cheap and easy sale to the Oil Barons to get them out of the shit and the rest is history.

Sadly money runs football, just look at the Spanish league

You obviously read my post didn't you? where did I blame the board for anything? I never said I wanted to replace them but I just think this is as good as it gets with them and the state of the modern game.

Try reading posts properly before you 'spaz' out I even said I thought they'd done a good job

I read your post properly thank you very much, see the second part of my comment. If you think the board has taken us as far as they can then what is the next logical step if we want to improve?

True, but I think they probably wondered what the point of the OP was and their only conclusion was that you wanted shot of the board. Can you clarfiy what the point was? That we've gone as far as we can?

It's not rocket science. The board might establish us as an even "topper" side if (a) we build a new stadium (b) FIFA's financial fair play actually means something. If not, then they won't.

Not a great deal we can do but accept that's how things are, it might possibly change if we get a new ground but that could be years away and wages might have moved on further by then

Personally I think we've got a very well run club. There may be something in an inability to compete at the very top without an owner willing to pay over the odds to attract players, however if we went down the route of City or Chelsea I would feel as though Tottenham Hotspur FC was no longer the same club I fell in love with. Every achievement would have a massive 'but' attached to it. I'm not sure the new financial rules will make much difference, money always finds a way in the current economic system, but I don't think I could draw much satisfaction from buying trophies. That's how I feel personally, others feel differently I'm sure. At the moment I'm more concerned by our manager than our chairman.

Unfortunatley through investment but I don't know where that would come from

I think we've found our level where we're at now, I don't expect us to be making massive signings and competing in the CL very often, unless the FFP really does start to count, but I won't hold my breath on that

Lets look at the clubs that were as big as we were in 2001 when Levy took over.

Leeds
Villa
Everton
Newcastle
Blackburn

These were the clubs that we were competing against and in the last couple of years have pulled away from.

Lets look at our turnover against the top teams without sugar daddies:

Arsenal £382m (ok they had the sale of Highbury that boosted it by about £100m).
Liverpool £185m
Man Utd £286m
Spurs £119m

Now yes Spurs can increase their turnover, as long as fans want to pay £1000 to watch a game or buy 30 shirts each, but I can't afford that.

Then you have of course Man City and Chelsea.

Levy and Harry somehow got us in the CL last year, and almost again this year. Taken us as far as they can, they've done miracles to get us this far.

Yes we went backwards sine 91. Bad managers and bad choices of players along with huge investment by Blackburn and Chelsea meant we dropped off the top and became a mediocre club (what Sunderland is now). With the introduction of the CL this cost us, both financially and with out global appeal. This will be very difficult to get back without the investment of (in Man City's case) £1bn. Which we don't have.

Now unless you have £1bn how do you think any board will take us further?
