Anyone remember punch and judy? Shaheen Afridi, as great a bowler as he is, has the same face as punch who i want to punch.

Looking at the weather radar, they only have to survive a few more minutes and they're coming off. Best chance they've got at the moment; they look a lot more likely to lose a wicket than score a run!

It is about time that they made a rule that if you have floodlights there will be no coming off for " bad light " otherwise what is the point of floodlights ?

I agree 100% in principle with that but I think the red ball as opposed to the white ball is much more difficult to pick up under lights

Is absolutely futile picking Buttler. Foakes must be livid.

Also how can we have a captain that doesn’t know how to use truly fast bowlers or leg spinners? It’s not rocket science. Give Archer/Wood short 4 over bursts looking to bowl fast and work batsman over. For a leg spinner, get men in catching positions and accept you will give away some runs, but back them.
Not quite as simple as that for Archer. He tends to take 2-4 overs to hit his stride. 6-8 over spells seem to suit him better.

Plus pink sends out a strong inclusivity message.
If you like. I don’t think that was the intention. It’s literally a visibility driven move, halfway between a red and white ball to allow play under lights in test matches.

Good half century for Crawley.

I think he's a keeper.

Pity Buttler isn't.*

So with Crawley impressing again what would be the best XI that England can put out. Personally I would go with:

Sibley
Crawley
Root
Pope
Stokes
Buttler / Bairstow
Woakes
Bess
Archer
Broad
Anderson

With the team above you could potentially replace Archer with another specialist batsmen as without him you would still have 4 seamers and Bess. However I'm not the biggest fan of Burns and the young players doing well out there are probably still a bit too young to come into the test arena. Woakes has turned into an excellent all rounder which can allow us to be slightly 'bowler heavy'.

Lastly, there is still the toss up between Buttler & Bairstow for the gloves as both are erratic with their batting. I think Bairstow is probably more naturally talented and would like to see him given another chance at some point.

There is a bit of a fuss about bad light etc.... question, why cant they just bloody use flood lights and so what if the conditions change slightly, there will always be a slight difference in conditions that affect the ball regardless.

There is obviously an issue with the red ball under lights. They clearly need to change the colour of the ball and sight screens when the artificial light takes over the natural light

You can’t play if the batsman and fielders cannot see the ball properly. At the speeds the ball is flying around at its bloody dangerous

I imagine it becomes more dangerous with the red ball, so the question would be why cant they use the white ball as they do for T20 and ODI where they can also play in the evenings? Im sure purists would object etc and I understand you want to keep the traditions but things move on or should rather move on... especially if youre trying t promote test cricket

That’s just not proper cricket, old chap!

You can’t go from Test Cricket to ODI mode in the same game. The ball is completely different as are the wickets which makes it pretty much a completely different game

It is crazy that they haven’t sorted out better options for Test cricket when the lights are on. Cricket continues to drag its feet in regards to bad weather and crazy rules & regs in the modern age
