I wasn't a fan of Strauss until he went to Australia and gave them a damned good whipping. If Root ever does something similar I might mellow. But he won't. When the chips are down, against the very top quality opposition (albeit cheating ****s) he will always/usually, more often that not come up short.

Don't waver. Stay strong brother bear.
LOL...He will anyway. Forget your hatred. Just release mate...........let it go.....relax.

I can guarantee every time I tune in a wicket will fall within three balls, it’s ridiculous!

In the 1st session of a Test Match, our supposedly 'resolute' opener has danced down the track and tried to whip a ball through straight-ish midwicket, against the spin...

Just incredible decision making by Sibley there...(n)

He's clearly using his feet a bit more than he used to, as he was so bogged down against spin previously. However, that was probably a bit extreme before lunch on the first day.

Absolutely. I personally think some of the criticism he got was ridiculous; it's a 5 day game. One minute people are saying the team can't bat time and lack application, and keep starting at 60-4, then when someone digs in, he gets hammered and derided. Can't win.

Is it a lack of concentration? It was a good nut but everyone gets them.

I knew if I waited i'd be given a stick to beat him with. And yay, the BBC duly obliged.

Root's scores this summer........23, 22, 17, 68 not out (when England were pushing for a declaration), 14 42, 9* and now 29

So, his captaincy is, lets be polite and call is 'suspect' and his batting is, well, disappearing rather quickly down the shitter. Other 'normal' batsmen would have either been dropped by now or be looking over their shoulders fearing for their place. It's time he was relieved of what he can't do so he can concentrate on what we know he can do.

So now someone will say 'but who would you have as captain'

To which i'd answer, right now, any fucker. Whoever it is couldn't possibly be worse, would probably contribute at least the same runs if not more and it might reinvigorate Root's batting which would then, overall, be good for the team.

Right now it's not good enough.

Wow, it feels good to get all match thread controversial :D

This team is lucky - considering when the next test series might be, the badly affected County calendar, most of their positions in the batting order are safe.

Let's see if the pressure ramps up on those 1 - 5 in the media like it has done for those in past ... ?
