@aussiespursguy

What’s the story with Pucovski? I’ve just read that he’s again had to be subbed out of a game due to concussion in the warm up, something like his 12th concussion?

Does he have a weakness/illness or is it sheer bad luck that he keeps getting knocked so to speak? Assume he has collided with someone during the warm up? He wouldn’t be batting without a lid and getting pinned or anything like that surely?

I've just read the BBC article. it says on there he's had 11 head injuries including bangs playing AFL, bangs on the head at home, and about 8 incidents playing cricket from being blunced to smashig hus head diving for a run.

if he's still experiencing symptoms there's no chance he should be playing top level cricket with the potential to be hit again.

Agreed, that’s crazy.

Like Jacques Kallis used to do? Stokes averages mid 30s, he's a "good" player currently who does the odd outstanding thing. We've tried everything else and failed, he has a great temperament, is the best leaver of the ball in the side and has shown he can block the crap out of it for 2 not out off 50 balls and also score 50 off 20. I'm not saying it's nailed on but for goodness sake everyone, we're bottom of the league and in the doldrums, at least be open minded to something a bit different. My ideal would be for him to bowl less anyway.

Kallis batted 4 iirc

Most of his test career he batted at 4 according to this.

He played 50 Tests at 3, that’s nearly as many as Stokes has played in his career for example. It’s more than an acceptable data sample. From 1997-2009, and he retired in 2013, so if anything showed a lot of his prime batting at 3.

He batted a lot at 4, some at 5, and even some at 6.

I want Stokes as vice captain to take some responsibility, which was my original point. Saying it’s too high up because he’s just finished bowling doesn’t wash when people like Kallis did it and did it well. It’s moot anyway as Root is batting 3 for WI, so we won’t have to worry.

Stokes could bat 3 and probably do a decent job but my argument is he would score more runs and bowl if he bats 5/6.
Using Kallis as an example again he averaged 10 runs an innings higher batting 4 than he did 3 in 170 innings compared to 78 innings batted 3.
Moving down the order seem to be a good move for him

Stokes has never done it apart from once, so that’s your opinion which is fine. But it’s not backed up by anything. Kallis batting 3 is backed up by an average of 50. I did laugh at “moving down the order seemed to be a good move” ?, he went from averaging 50 to 60, not 10 to 60.

As I said, all moot because of Root anyway, so we can go back to doing the same old and having Stokes average 35 at 5.

Isn't averaging more a good thing?
im really not getting your reasoning here stokes averages 35 at 5/6 but he is going to do better in a role he has never done before and its well know for being a tougher role especially for this England team because he would be facing the new ball and the opposite teams best bowlers when he first comes in

I could throw some absolute hypothetical nonsense right back at that but I tell you what mate, I’ll go back and edit my post and put Stokes at 4 in my lineup, we can forget that this mind numbing conversation ever happened, and we’ll wait and see how long it takes @midoshairband to quote my post and say “Kallis batted 3 iirc”. Then at least we can remember we come into the cricket thread for some humour and light relief from football.

to be fair, Kallis averaged 58 batting at 9 in tests, so not sure why he didn't stay there.
