Perhaps not, but then do we really rely on Modric that much? I'm not saying Modric isn't a great player, but at the end of the day, it's goals that win matches, so on the basis of the last couple of years I'd rate Bale Rafa and Ade as currently being more valuable to the team.

Modric has great technique and a lot of our play does stem from him, but does he really perform a role that couldn't be carried out by someone like Huddlestone or Carroll? Doubtfull.

I'm not saying that THudd and TC are as good as or better than Modric, but for the role Modric performs for us, I don't think they need to be.

This, IMO, is probably more indicative that Modric is played out of position I.e. should probably be in the same role as Rafa, however, since Rafa plays fairly regularly, scores fairly regularly, and when subbed is either replaced by a striker or defender, we could probably afford to lose Modric, arguably, with effect being less than the sum of his parts.

Besides, much rather see a young English lad make it through the ranks.
