Thing is until we say no and hold on to our top player this happens every year. It's not just about the money and how happy Kane is to stay. It's about breaking that cycle, and saying we want to be an elite club, and that means we decide who we sell and who we don't and more importantly when. This is a line coming from those within the club.

I'm fed up with players thinking they can dictate what they do. I'm all for players being able to move on if they aren't happy but put in a transfer request if that's the case. It's easy, and the fans and media know the score.

We cant give in to Man City and especially now when they are desperate for our star player. It is actually bigger than just us in this case. It is laying down a marker for all clubs. I am glad the club is finally growing some balls.

I'm in two minds about this myself, how big a club is it that desperately clings onto one of their players because otherwise they'll be crap? That seems like a small club mentality.
I appreciate the show of strength dictating terms on how and when something happens though which proves we are not minnows who will roll over, that's is a whole different ballgame.
We will however, only be a big club when we can replace a truly top player with another one.

PS sorry but what's happened to the transfer donation thread I can't find it.

Nah, we have a price and we don’t budge that’s how I see it. Big clubs have sold big players in the past (United and Ronaldo, Juve and Pogba etc) and will continue to do so, the key is getting what we thing he is worth to us otherwise no. Players should honour their contract or hand in a transfer request (forgoing any ‘loyalty’ payment) and own it, none of this snidy stuff, trying to use the media. Totally agree with trix, own you want to leave publicly and accept the risk of backlash, or shut up and let the club decide best course of your registration

That's the problem though. Until we're back in the champions league, there is no way we can replace Kane with anyone similar to his level of quality. I would rather we kept him for another season, hopefully got back in the champions league, and then we can sell him from a position of strength, with more hope of being able to attract a quality replacement.

That was my point.

Contrary to reports Winks has been open to leaving the club for a while due to concerns about his game time. He knows he needs to move if he wants to kick start his England career. Spurs would sell at right level.

I could see that personal pride would mean he would like to probably stick around and prove himself, but I’m sure he has got enough brains to recognise his position within the overall setup. He needs to be a fixture, as much as possible, in a team.

thing is, we have been saying this since… Carrick? Berbatov?

If we want to be treated like a big club we have to act like a big club. That isn’t happening.

Only one thing is gonna change it long term but that’s for a different thread

Amen I think this is the post that’s nails it and it’s what I have said so many times, all the talk is always the money, but at some point it has to be about more than that, it’s has to be about making a statement as a club.

I think if we can get Romero done, with everything else that's happening with others coming and going (e.g.Toby...) this summer will already represent a fantastic window for us. We've all gone through some shit these past few months, so it'll be great to start the new season with a bit of positivity. Hats off to Fabio. That's the way to do it!

When this transfer window finally closes on August 31st I for one will be fascinated to see the balance sheet for our transactions in the market place. @Hercules has stated quite clearly that we have money available to buy players without relying on it coming from any particular major sales but for obvious reasons he cannot reveal why that is. To quote his post of yesterday :

"Listen up!
I did say a while back-We have funds for purchases without relying on outs first. I will not disclose why that is!"

I regarded that bit of ITK as worth it's weight in gold because we all realise the possible implications of such a statement and the quality of squad we could have available next season.

Thanks Hercs (y)

It's important that we end up at the closure of the transfer window with the spine of the team strengthened.

It looks like Fabio is working towards that end with the reported transfers

IF we sold Kane we wouldn't pay the money (transfer fee or wages) to sign a player of similar quality anyway IMO. We would instead probably sign a player who isn't a gamble like Ings and pair him with an up and coming potential future superstar like Vlahovic. Which would be the right way for us to go about things anyway I think.

The Goat's bleat that Kane doesn't expect to move is interesting. I suppose the question then becomes whether or not he accepts this, buckles down and gives his usual excellent performance.
