Still to make up my mind on Lovren....

But 30+ million for Shaw is ridiculous. Man United are being fleeced left right and centre at the moment. Woodward is so desperate to get deals done that he seems to have given up negotiating. I'm sorry but you never pay 30m for a full back. It's madness.

I'm looking forward to Lamela & Eriksen tearing up Utd's defence next season :)

You also don't become one of the Premier League's better left backs at the age of 18. They're paying for likely 12+ years of top quality service from an English international.

What's ridiculous though, is what they're alleged to be paying him as far as salary.

What they are paying Southampton to buy him is only for his first contract with them. Further contracts, if there are any, will reflect the fact that a further Transfer Fee will not be needed and will most likely mean a huge signing on fee and/or big jump in salary. Very silly money IMO for an 18 year old who may well be a very good fullback but Lionel Messi he is not.

Right, but that goes back to what I'm saying about salary. What they're already paying him right off the block at his age is absurd, as that builds up like you're saying by the time he's done and at rates of inflation... I just grimace at the thought.

However, that fee is for current market value with respect to prospects. He's not worth that much to Saints because that amount of money has much more relative prevalence, and of course they were never going to keep hold of him for the next 12+ years anyway, much less even another or two. Man U however, have the clout and resources to keep him there at least until the age of 30. So what they're paying for is that investment in the future and the assurances of it.

Based on the last ITK I can't see us getting Lovren, Trix says, we must act "before Saints have sold their quota".

And that's not DL's game. So if Saints bosses do stand firm our negotiating tactic of last day mediocre bids to flush out desperation probably won't work.

We made what was at the time a record signing on July 6th last summer. I know we do have these old generalizations of Levy, but he has shown himself to be malleable enough given extenuating circumstances, and I think this one would be such considering the other teams that would be, and are, pursuing him; as well as how highly Poch may have prioritized him. Also, it's important to note that Lovren is home from this tournament before the point at which Paulinho was done winning the Confed Cup last summer.

What then is a really talented 18 year old attacking midfielder worth I wonder. Shaw for all his talent will remain a fullback and will not be able to transfer that talent to a more attacking role in the way say Bale has.

I do hope you are right. However I do think to some extent, last Summer we had to spend that money fast, because of the DL negotiation tactics just happening in reverse with Real Madrid.
No one wants to go into a negotiation with a club to buy a player, when the selling club knows you just got 80 mill, the players price jumps up. See every Chelsea and City buy in the first few years with their new owners.

Still hoping you are right and that DL has seen the light and gets Poch a player that Poch wants early on in the window, especially one who apparently is 100% on his side.

Not sure if you can call the last fuck up a manager though..?? ;)

Not ITK in the slightest but a friend at work is a massive Southampton fan and goes on the Southampton equivalent of Spurs Community (though obviously not as good).

Says Lallana to Pool for 25Million and could be announced as soon later today. Thought it was worth a mention.

The Telegraph are running with that too. Probably true. Not worth that price, or at least not worth that % of our probable budget. Wonder how it will impact on any sale of Lovren though.

Southampton are seriously cashing in their chips. It'll be interesting to see how they retool their squad.

Shit (but not unexpected) news if Lallana ends up with the bindippers. Hopefully it would at least take them out of the running for Shaqiri and Sanchez though. Not that we'd have a chance but either of those would be much scarier signings for 'Pool than Lallana imo (much as I rate him).

They'll get Shaqiri as well IMO.

Just posted an update from Skynews, that they understand Lallana headin to Pool today for medical but someone deleted it.

EVEN THOUGH YOU CAN CONSIDER IT ITK RELATED NEWS SINCE IT HAS TO DO WITH THE LAST BIT OF ITK WE GOT - HINT TO THE MODS!
