Found it really interesting the update about switching targets at almost a moments notice. Goes to show that unless you can lay down the fee and the wages in full straight away how much work and luck must be required in order to pull one of these transfers off. Throw third parties in and the fact we're competing with numerous clubs and it's no surprise some of these transfer sagas are so drawn out.

It's like any "multi-bidder" buyer situation though. Suddenly another buyer might offer something that changes the dynamic of the deal, a bit more cash, a bit more of an agent cut, an A&C-type hooker ...

Not only do players have multiple suitors, the suitors have multiple targets. It would definitely be interesting to see some sort of chart with all the clubs on one side and all the players on the other, and lines drawn between them to indicate "interest". I expect it'd be like a Tulisa-hosted party: lines everywhere.

Surprised to see Ryan mention Wham in regards to a reason we need to invest - obviously just his onion.

I personally think unless they get a new manager and overhaul over their whole squad they will never be near the top 6. The days of the unexpected teams sneaking into Europe spots is all but gone.

The feeling is they will invest heavily.
That means prices will go up all across the board. Thats my point

My bad I thought you were insinuating they would make our time harder in the challenge for Europe.

Interesting to see if they do invest as personally I feel it will end being on overrated players. They have no lure for talented or well known players. Not just the stature of the club but more of the current calibre of players and manager.

The Leandro vibes are sounding all too familiar. If the ITK is to be believed then my gut feeling is both Inter and Leandro's agent/s will continue to piss us about, waiting for a club with deeper pockets to come along. Until that time I get the feeling that Leandro is in no rush to leave and they are prepared to play the waiting game.

I hope I'm wrong but it wouldn't surprise me if we get the inevaitable "its complicated" line soon.

I would prefer that tbh. At least it happens early and several ITK's have indicated this will be the last time we go in for him. Rather it now than drag on until last minute and clubs know we're desperate.

Also I think for the money touted for him we could invest it a lot lot wisely

I'm starting to wonder if it is us who are losing interest. It may well be we have set a price and it is down to Inter to accept or not. We may well have other targets that we will be putting the effort into this summer and LD will only come if Inter accept the offer we may already have made.

yup, sounds a real nightmare, shows how the goalposts are constantly moving and you really need to be patient and for the stars to really align for all parties to be agreed. Just shows how well we've done really (lloris, verts) and that the strategy we use, however fraught with danger, is the only one we can effectively use. Whereas the billionaires just walk in the room with a blank cheque i dare say we put many months into every transfer we do? Must be soul destroying (oscar) where we just get gazumped at the last minute.

Even more important then than when we've got a player that everyone wants we don't ever sell him no matter what.

What will they be using for money ? And frankly their squad is shocking and it needs major investment throughout.

I read the club had other names on the list besides Baldini I hope that's the case, AVB said he wanted a DOF last summer and Baldini was linked back then, I hope we haven't been waiting all this time for him to become available.

I know, I can see a lot of top players wanting to play for Sam Allardyce, they do play some nice football.

Well I hope that's the case as we can't afford for it to drag on. We all know Levy is a good negotiator but knowing when to walk away from a deal is also important.

The fortunate scenario the Pikeys from West Ham find themselves in is that they are about to be gifted a stadium. The last team to be given a stadium (Man City) were snapped up pretty quickly by billionaires. I can see the same thing happening to West Ham in the future if they stay in the Premier League. Therefore, it's probably in their best interests to invest and make themselves as attractive as possible to a take-over.

Not surprising to me that West Ham have money, as I've always believed that we have had money there as well for the correct player.

If you believe various bits of info then.....

We bid around 25m for Soldado last summer - according to Soldado himself

We thought we had Mata for around 22m summer before - straight from Harry's mouth

Almost agreed on Leandro at round about the 17-20m mark in January

Almost had Moutinho for around 26m at the end of last summer window.

We would have signed Hazard for around 30m IF he had agreed to come to us on do-able wages.

Obviously some may cast their suspicions on a few of those deals, but I've always believed that we have had money IF we can find the right quality of player for the right kind of money.

It's just hard doing that and getting something finalised, made a little harder by the fact that Levy will simply not cave in and chuck on the few extra millions required to rattle something through a little quicker.

Put it this way, in an imaginary world where we could get someone like let's say Hulk for 28m and reasonable wages, I firmly believe we would do it because it would represent good value and we DO have the funds for a good deal like that

Would it? Much better ways to spend 28m IMO.
