BC your obsessed with wages, it's almost as if you think no other club has to pay them apart from us! How much do you calculate that David Bentleys transfer cost us, or Darren Bent or even Modric. Fact is players cost money and wages. Buying a striker for £20m and 80k a week isn't going to turn us into Leeds, even Aston villa afforded this for Bent!
Just relax
i think you're missing the point here. punting 20 million + wages on a 'prospect' is a massive gamble that has as much potential to fail as it does to succeed. If the player is a success then great, our money is well spent and, in all likelihood, his value increases.
But what if he fails? Like Bentley, we are spending in excess of 35-40 million on a benchwarmer that we can't give away. On top of this we have to go out into the market, AGAIN, to find a replacement for said player. So not only are we losing out on the failures money, we compound the error by having to pay for another player who also has the potential to fail. If they both cost similar amounts that is 70-80 million spent to go backwards. That kind of expenditure may not immediately break a club like ours, but it will prevent us from progressing in a huge way.
BC is exactly right in that it most definitely is better to get 10 Lennons at 1 mill apiece that one Bentley, as you stack the odds for success heavily in your favour that way.
