Fazio is an awful lot better than Alderweireld

I don't get why Fazio gets bad press. Perhaps because he replaced a fans' favourite in Dawson. He's a solid defender and a great organiser - our back 4 is always shakier without him.

This. Fans seem to forget our best form of last season coincided with a run of games Verts and Fazio played together.

Suggestive winks about Imbula in the Imbula thread ;)

Will have a butchers... When I mentioned Martial and imbula in a post yesterday.. Greyfox gave an agree rating... Maybe that was what that was for..

Hang on there appears to be no imbula thread....

LOL

It would be stupid to have 5 specialist centrebacks with the restrictions in squad size. That's why I doubt it will happen.
  1. Fazio, 2. Dier, 3. Vertonghen, 4. Chiriches, 5. Kaboul

You're right, it will never happen here... (Not to mention that 4 of the 5 also are capable of playing FB)

We're clearly getting rid of Chirches and Kaboul. Leaving Fazio, Verts, Wimmer and Dier. It would be pointless blocking Diers progression by spending even more money on a centre back

I think it was his shaky start that stuck. He is slow and hasn't provided the sort of aerial defence he did in Spain, probably because the EPL is a touch more physical.

But he did seem to be developing a decent partnership with SuperJan. On the other hand, Fazio being out of the starting XI did hand Eric Dier a nice run of games to get under his belt; games that had meaning (at the time) and that can only be a good thing.

I wonder if the hierarchy expect Vertonghen to leave after next season, his contract still being an unresolved issue and are looking at a CB pairing of two from Fazio, Dier, Wimmer and perhaps another from our youth set up (Veljkovic as a CB?).

Alderweireld played very well for Southampton as a central midfielder when Wanyama or Schneiderlein were out. Him doing so alongside Bentaleb or another for us would be a massive step up from, for example, Stambouli or Capoue. He would therefore be a signing that covers two areas for us. And him ahead of Verts and Dier/Fazio would offer tons more solidity than what we had last season. And wouldn't stop us also strengthening CM further.

Make you feel better?

And we also want Trippier

ITK have already pointed out the the club is very concerned about Walker's fitness so I wouldn't be surprised if we brought it Toby and Trippier and loaned out Yedlin and/or sold Fredericks.

Look like Poch is building two sides, one to play the high line, and a second to defend it when we lose the ball................

Alderweireld has been linked to us in recent weeks so its nothing thats earth shattering.....

I do like the prospect of having him play next to Jan, might make him sign a new contract.

Not much new but apparently the sliding pitch looks amazing on CAD and he reckons NFL stuff will all be sorted by 10th September at latest. Wembley will get one more year.

EDIT: Almost forgot! They are considering making provisions for safe standing in the 'Kop' end.

Wembley will only get 1 more year? Eesh. Sorry Goodell. This stadium will only be half done by then, and that's an optimistic estimate.
