MS is looking over. Kruger saying he won't be sold for any money. Can't see how be backs down from that, and its obvious we're miles away in valuations. Real shame if Poch was desperate for him. :(

All effort into Musacchio now please.
If we can't get Schneiderlin, I'd expect us to try and sign a LWF like Depay instead and just keep all our CMs.

Who actually asks these questions? We get a lot of transcripts of twitter posts with ITKs but the questions posed always seem to be ones that we already knew/know the answers to 90% of the time

...just saying

Sorry but I think it is naive to simply dismiss Kruegers comments. He has come out twice now and publically stated he is keeping MS. If Levy did that and then went back on it I'd genuinely fear for his safety never mind his job. Saints fans aren't going to forgive it either.

I think we need to accept that we aren't getting MS this summer but most likely they'll be a deal done that will mean we'll see him in Jan.

You're probably close on that as well. I guess we should count Defoe as part of that since we didn't make any additions since his sale before the recent Summer signings. So, that being said, Schneiderlin will likely command in excess of £60-70k/week (I believe Holtby was on around £65k/week when we lured him to us), Musacchio has been reported to treble his wages (was on £20k/week at Villarreal) so he's going to be at around £60k/week and Depay would obviously come in cheaper than that (let's assume £35k/week). On the lower side, that's about £160k/week in new contracts.

IF we can sell players such as Dawson, BAE, Dembele and another winger (Lennon would be my choice despite his preseason), I'd think that would put us in pretty good shape when you take into account the contracts off the books already (Defoe, Siggy, Livermore and Falque).

There's plenty of work to be done still.
If we include Defoe with the Dawson, Benny and Naughton outgoings, then we have about 150-160k in wages out right there. So sort of cancels out already, based on your assumption. I'd still like Lennon to go, though. And I do think we will eventually sell Dembele or Sandro to being in Schneiderlin.

Maybe, but you can't really be categorical. Jan seemed to slot straight in as if he'd been playing in the EPL forever, Demichelis struggled a bit initially but settled in better and more quickly than most realise, Kaboul really did struggle. It's not easy to predict.
Jan spoke English though, a massive help. Would be very surprised if Mateo does. Demichelis had Zabeleta at least, I imagine he and Kompany both had German from their Bundesliga days.

Defending is so much more about the collective unit than individuals. Takes time, needs communication.

Kaboul was very young first time round and was being played in a very dodgy defence (In between Dawson and a very young Bale - who has never enjoyed defending). He was treated badly by Ramos (subbed early in one game if I recall), very reminiscent of Sherwood's general treatment of Chiriches (inc West Brom away).

Don't want to go against Gards, but I'm still hearing that J-Rod is the one Poch wants, and he'd rather wait to get him (even if that means January)than fill the gap with any of the other options thay may have been considered.
Would much rather Depay then J Rod, yes Rod has prem experience and worked well under Poch but Depay could well be the next Dutch superstar and would personally rather we go with him.

We're all assuming that Poch wants J-Rod for LF as he played at Saints, but what if he sees him moving to centre forward? He was still learning his trade before the injury, and Lambert was a senior figure in the dressing room that gave the team character as well as his abilities on the pitch, but maybe Poch saw Jay playing in the middle long term?

It just seems strange for Freddie to come out twice and state MS is not for sale. Sure, do it once to show the fans some strength. But why do it twice? I think he and Levy are playing silly buggers against each other. Levy offers peanuts, so Freddie comes out and says what he has to try and force Levy's hand, so Levy offers him an extra macadamia. So Freddie feels he has to come out in public again to try and get the whole bag of mixed nuts.

But they both know what will happen in the end. MS will be a Spurs player, it's just that Freddie will have to accept that he may not get Tesco's finest and Levy will have to wait till the last minute to hand over his bag of Aldi fruit and nuts. I.e Levy wins, Literally.

Depay as LWF and Rodriguez to replace Ade next summer. Interesting.

The talk of us signing 3 or 4 more players in the next three and a half weeks makes me laugh.
Every single player we are currently heavily linked with is not only expensive but also has extra difficulty involved in the deal. From 3rd party ownership, a defiant owner and a long term injury.
Even the Depay deal is v.risky as he was more or less unknown before the World Cup.

None of these deals look easy to me and therefore I am going to call that NONE of them will happen this month.
Hope I am wrong but if you look at the deals and think about our history with transfers that's my bet.

Yeah I agree this possibility certainly has to be taken into account, especially when you consider the fact both of our senior strikers are now straddling 30. It's also important to note that Ade will be leaving for the ACON this year, and considering the undoubted push by the board to put in a strong push in the Europa as well, it would make sense Poch would want to have at least two senior strikers on board for that stretch.

It's true that Kane has more than impressed in recent time, but it's still to be seen whether he can produce in the Prem under Poch's system, as Kane's goals came from Sherwood's traditional setup and merely getting on the end of Eriksen's crosses while Poch's setup is much more focused on vertical passing on the ground.

None? State your terms, I'll get on that bet. :playful:

I agree but we have no interest in doing that, we'd rather just pay the money and take the player so it would be at Villareal's instigation and we'd have been forced into it hence we go to River Plate and cut out Villareal next time, River Plate would get more money so they'd be
I don't think there will be alternatives. It's him or stick with what we have IMO.
agree with this a lot. lots of people on here seem to think we have no quality in that area. We have 4 quality options in that area who hopefully given some tweaking and good coaching will prove to be top class. Some on here are a bit to quick to write off certain players. I don't get those people advocating selling Dembele and or Paulinho and Sandro whilst bigging up Capoue after a few decent pre season games.

Kane is perfectly capable on the ground - look at the Hull game in league cup (capital one cup) as a deecent example. Great goal and hit the cross bar in 15 minutes of normal time without a cross in sight.

To get the nest out of any striker, the sysyte has to work for them (see the woieful set up for Soldado in the first half of last season to undrstand that) but if that's in place Kane will score a few
