He knows poch well, knows what he needs for his - very specific - system to function and will work closely with him. Poch has managed in the prem and knows what qualities he will require in each player for each role.

You seem to be looking for a problem where there isn't one.

Nope. I've been around long enough and seen enough false dawns to look for potential concerns before they arise that's all - considering our boards track record I don't think there's any problem with me looking at it from all possible angles including the possible negative ones - I just hope the board have considered these too. Time will tell on Mitchell, on paper it looks a good move but it's not unreasonable to express the opinion that both he and Poch may need to consider the calibre of player they're looking at seen as they're at a bigger club with bigger expectations.

I know people value positivity, we've seen it in spades every time we've signed a Sig, Soldado, Chiriches, Lamela, Baldini or AVB but the realities tell us to temper ourselves and consider all eventualities including the ones we don't like.

It's only a forum TT, I don't carry any influence luckily.

I think we can comfortably assume he's fully aware of what's required to build an effective, competitive team to challenge in the top quarter of the table, steve.;)

Agreed TT, do you think the board look at it the same or do they want top fifth of the table or beyond? Outside of the top two these are transient times...

It's not quite the point I was making but I understand what you're saying even if I only half agree with it - transfers have never been an exact science as Mitchell is the first to admit. What areas do you consider need to be addressed? Positions and examples?

Oh I understand that you're concerned with Mitchell being tasked with a higher and unfamiliar degree of responsibility, I'm just pointing out that he uses a different set if criteria to identify targets, while as recently we've solely worked with quality. By focusing more on compatibility, he somewhat circumvents the issue of whether or not he is finding precise quality because he is finding players that would work with the other parts well rather than just trying to find a "good enough" player.

I appreciate you politely asking me for my own opinions on who and what we need, but I don't think this is the right place for me to weigh in with my own take.

Regarding Galahad's ITK my only small concern is whether Mitchell is used to looking at players that are of the right quality for us. Sometimes when people take the step up they don't quite bring the right ambition with them - we've seen ourselves and Liverpool overspending on players who aren't always top quality and I'd much rather we settled for what we had or look to the youth than bring in a shiny new face who isn't any better than what we have. I wonder how Mitchell will fair at a bigger club with bigger expectations.

I would like to think that MoPo has had a good chat with him. He has worked for MoPo and I am sure that he will be aware of what he wants with regards to incoming players.

Long term goals have to be consistent CL and challenging for the title. Short term is probably a lot more realistic than ever before - I think poch will be given time to build slowly and strongly for the long term.

from a benteke vs bony discussion on coys

hertyid: We are definitely keeping very close tabs on Bony availability that's for sure.
Not sure we ever followed up on Benteke after summer 2013.

I would love either but for some reason I prefer Benteke. Probably the FIFA addict in me speaking. I suppose Benteke's added pace and height makes him see like a better option for Poch's system.

Benteke does feel like a better fit, but he's a sicknote and bony is so powerful and lethal.

Would take either but have had a 'Bony on' for a long time.

The thing is it just says we're keeping tabs on his availability but when is he going to be 'available'? Certainly not in January and we desperately need a new striker IMO.

Well we know he's available but he's just going to cost a packet as Monk said and I think they'd cost him up super high in the summer as well as Jan as they don't necessarily want to get rid.

They want top dollar, full stop.

The thing that might be on our minds is sticking Tommy Carroll in as part of a deal and maybe sticking another player in the mix and bunging some cash on top of it + add-ons.

That's the kind of thing I'd be expecting.

Have we forgotten we've been keeping taps on the availability of Leandro for a long time.:)

New ITK
http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/index.php?threads/update-17-hertyid-on-bony-benteke.114786/

says we are monitoring Bony than Benteke.

With Bony having signed a new deal to keep him at Swansea till 2018, he is going to be expensive - probably more than 25m.

Personally, I can't see Bony or Benteke deal happening in Jan. We are not going to buy anyone for such a lot of money. Only possibility is we find a suitable buyer for Ade & Soldado - that's not happening either

I have absolutely no faith in either Bony or Benteke or anyone else of that calibre coming to spurs in jan. We hear the same rumours conveniently started every window. And it usually goes something like this

- "we are after x player" - Spurs community get all excited.
-" But we need to ship some out first" - spurs community still excited so ignore this info.
-"selling club demanding astronomical fee so had to move down our list of targets" - spurs community state they never wanted player x anyway!
- We sign new player x and he's so far down the list he's not on the list. Not on Mo Po's list anyway. - spurs community, and Mo Po....rush to YouTube and cheer that we've signed the next Gareth bale!
-new player x sits on the bench cause he's no better than the previous set of low down the list players we've just bought.
-board state through various ITK's "we tried" - spurs community goes into meltdown.
- Levy sees the turmoil from fans and sacks one of either coach, manager, sporting director or Doris on tea duty!

Then repeat.......

We've seen how vulnerable Arsenal and Liverpool are this season. Fourth place is there for the taking. This could be the right time to pay top money for a striker like Bony. If only we could find buyers for some of our fringe players..

I think that with the signing of Yedlin, we may sell Naughton to Swansea and addtional funds for Bony.
Don't know if Swansea will want to part company with Bony though...

A bit like when we was top 3 and Levy went all out; signed Saha and Nelson to secure CL spot. :coffee:
