I'm kind of conflicted about Theate.

I personally don't rate him myself, I always think he looks quite 'gangly' and out of control on the pitch i.e. lacking composure. I think to the eye at least he looks more Sanchez than Vertonghen.
That said though, the statistics tell a different story in that he really strives in is progressive carries/passes out of defence.

Also, his main strength out of possession is his ability in 'defending backwards', as in making tackles while chasing down balls fed down the flanks i.e. recovery tackles.

These two strengths are probably the most important requirements for an Ange centre back. So the signing would make great sense in that respect.

This would also lean into the newly touted 'data-led/moneyball' system we're implementing as I'd personally classify Theate as not easy on the eye, but statistically impressive.

Dragon's miles off with Perisic wages isn't he? everywhere im looking it's reported to be around 180k pw.

I'm not one bit convinced that Ivan perisic is on 60k a week.

Who knows, but I think I remember Herc saying around the transfer that his wages were a lot lower than people think when people started quoting £100k+.

Im commenting on your impatience and apparent frustration of our inability to make early signings on 11th June.

One or our apparent main targets was literally involved in the match yesterday.

Our new manager has only recently been confirmed, and we’ve still not got a DoF.

The transfer window officially opened on Friday.

And you’re complaining that we’ve not made any signings. In 2 days.

how many times are you going to comment on it? Twice, or more?

At what stage in the window do you change the tune to "there's still time, noone else has done much, judge after the window closes"?

I thought he did pretty well last summer.

this idea that “data led recruitment” is some panacea is very over-rated. Plenty of clubs, far more committed to it have still had failures when signing what they think are undiscovered diamonds. Just because it’s suggested that we will be committing to a more data led approach (something which is also misleading as it’s not as though we haven’t had a data analysis team in place for years) doesn’t mean the data is going to fit with reality.

That's great wanting to sign sub 15m players however don't we need a DOF or an equivalent title to help do that?! Which one of our current geniuses at board level are going to picking these gems?!

Interesting point you make about Levy waiting to save on wages.
I said exactly the same thing a couple of days ago in the "Ousting of Daniel Levy " thread and got piled on by the usual suspects.... a couple of whom seem to spend half their time on this forum trolling me!

Theate would be a good fit. But flies in the face of all other signings being below 15m (according to D1)! Rennes would surely charge a min of 30m.

The main things I am hearing is he wants fast ,high energy mobile players and they have bought him in to find value / unearthed potential in the market place rather than buy established 40-50 million players

I still think Raya will happen but I think a lot of our other signings will be off the radar and south of 15 million

I found Daniels comments re our academy interesting yesterday as with the exception of Devine none of our other top kids are likely to be ready for a couple of years

the cream of our academy are in the under 17 and 16 teams

Regarding some of the speculation on wages on here

Lori’s is on 100k a week , Tanguy 200k , Peresic is on 60 a week

the only player who is on mega bucks is harry

regarding maddison , last summer when Daniel was trying to convince conte to take eriksen who wanted to return we then looked at maddison who was available for 50 and passed , for it to happen leicster would have to come off on price

Alas if only Conte hadn’t stopped us getting Eriksen back… :-(
