Could have done with this data lead approach years ago like asking ChatGPT "I'm thinking of signing Ndombele" and it answers "Ndombele will be a lazy shit and you'll be trying for years to offload him". It feels like we've done away with the old methods of Conte and Jose ball and more with a more modern approach both in style of football and recruitment. If we can get those other 2 done for pre season I'll be impressed.

Whenever I make a few signings in footy manager I always wonder how the virtual spurs community peeps are holding up. I am now getting a glimpse of this

Also excited at the prospect of signing another VdV. Perhaps signing him over a more expensive Tapsoba will keep a bit more in reserve for when Ange gets a look at our midfield. Gonna need lots of running and Skipp, Bissouma, Sarr, Bentancur needs adding to IMO.

Quite nice we seem to be announcing signings reasonably quick as well. Announcement videos etc seemed to take an age last year
100%. Can't remember who it was but I swear there were photos of one player training before we'd announced it. Spence maybe?

Yeah I think the team were away for pre season so hired a photographer who leaked it

With all the positive ITK and the speed we're addressing the areas we need to fill it would appear the penny has finally dropped with Levy.

Damien Comolli brought in a company called Decision Technology in 2006 to provide a data lead approach to recruitment. We signed an exclusive agreement with them just before Damien got the boot and had a contract with them until 2018. Sadly nobody seems to have made any use of their insights after Harry Redknapp came in.

Yep. And many of our signings were mainly data-led under Comolli.

Favourite instance of this was Corluka when we took the promo photos about 2 months before he actually signed.

Think he played an entire pre-season with City having done all of the media stuff at Spurs.

D1 in response to a post
Would love to know whether DL is enjoying this change in modus operandi or if his head is spinning and he’s looking a bit seasick.
Neither this is all business , the club and brand need cl football plus there has to be a huge turn around if we are to stand a chance of keeping Kane so the club needed to act quickly and efficiently

Enic have never put their hands in there pocket but they have pretty much always spent the revenue earned just as we did after the cl final that is what is happening now the stadium has been doing very well also Daniel cares as much if not more about our wage bill then transfer fees , Loris is on 100k a week is leaving, Moura on 80k has gone , winks on 50k is going this allows us to do other things and spend

when I say they want 5 more it will not be excessive , holberg is very likely to go as are 3 or 4 others , the returning loanees will All get a chance pre season but many will be off loaded , there are going to be some swap deals plus some contracts torn up this will be our busiest summer since bale left and we bought Chadli, soldado etc etc

Didier Zokora was data led?

Yes he was. I remember there was a story that came out at the time about how Comolli was fine selling Carrick as the data told him Zokora was going to be better

There are also interviews with Comolli where he said Berbatov was targeted as the data told them that our team struggled at the time at possession and progressive carries in attacking areas, and Berbatov was a player who excelled at this. Modric was another signed using data.

If you google it there are snippets from Comolli talking about all this.

This bit really surprises me. The way data has taken over football I'm genuinely surprised anybody in the game is resistant to it.

Hope these people either get with the times or leave the club.
Not the thread for an in-depth discussion on it; however I'm not surprised at all, you can have all the data in the world it still won't tell you they're a great fit; you need only look to one record signing frenchman to see that.
Respectfully IMHO you need both, just not in here.

Nah he’d signed. At the time we had ITK as close to that deal as possible. It took months to announce but the ink was long dry on the contract.
