We won't sign a CB at all. No need for it.

Sorry Storts but with Dawson and Gallas both out and King prone as he is, that only leaves us with 2 recognised CB's for the rest of the season.

Surely we have to sign someone, we can then sell Bassong in the summer, release GallasN bring back Caulker and have 4 CB's plus King for next season.

Would hazard a guess that we'll gor Diarra on 6 month loan deal now too.

City are going to have a problem with Ade at the end of the season. It will be difficult for them to find a club willing to pay the £170K per week that he will still be on with them next year and also pay them a fee for his services. They also won't want to let him see out his contract so they get nothing and also possibly pay all or most of his wages for a year if they lend him out again. They will have to make big compromises imo.

Dawson is nearly back to fitness. We still have Kaboul, King and Bassong too...
No need to waste money on a CB when we have a real prospect ready to step in next season. Especially when the far bigger priorities are finding a striker, GK, DM (now that Sandro and Parker are injured) and a pacey winger.

The problem will actually be for Adebayor not City. City know that we will happily buy him. So the ball is left in Adebayor's court, does he want to join us (where he is loved but has to take a substantial pay cut), bank on one of the other sides with lots of oil money wanting him or stay at City to train with the kids for a season.

You can cross Marco Reus off your wish list now as he has just signed for Dortmund and Gotze has extended his contract with them too....

Hasn't Ade come out and said that he donates half (or some such figure) of his weekly wage to charity? Or did I dream that?

It may be true or it may be his way of justifying no pay cut.. maybe its both. But at the end of the day I think we have to accept he wont be signing a perm deal with us under our structure.

He did come out and say that yeah, but it's not half he donates, it's a much smaller figure.

I think it was reported that he donates 120000 of 170000 a week to his village in Africa, I think

dawson is back now, gallas won't be out for too long. you can't sign someone every time a player gets injured, with five first team centrebacks that's more than any other team in the league, how many do we need exactly? twelve? long term we'll need to sign one or two, but not now.

I think we should give some money to his charity then, as well as paying his wages.

The other players can't complain, we stick to our wage cap - all problems solved.

I would have thought this is pretty much the wrong time to buy from Brazil. The economy is booming so they can offer wages that can match or in one or two cases exceed what we can offer, with Brazil hosting a world cup they all want to be involved and they improve their chances being first choice for a good Brazilian team than being second or third choice for a European team that isnt one of the biggest teams.

Leandro has said he isn't really interested in moving, although with CL football I think we could convince him he wouldn't be hurting his international chances too much by joining us - just look at Sandro. But Tim Vickery says that players need support back home to get them into the national team - someone like Neymar has that support, has Leandro done enough to have people supporting his case for inclusion?

Vickery also says that his back to goal play needs work. think he would be a good signing but he would need time to adapt, like Sandro did, and I don't think we would be able to sell that to him at this stage of his career. It would be a really tough deal to complete, both with club and player, and with both Adebayor and Harry's future unclear, I'm not sure we would go in for a deal 100%, which is what we would need to do to get him.

Couple of points:

1.) Brazil economy will just continue to get bigger compared to UK (Brazil just overtook UK economy to become 6th largest in world last week) so now is the best time to buy as it will only get harder as time goes on for the reasons you've stated.

2.) Don't listen to Vickery, knows a lot of facts and history but his record with player scouting and prediction of where they will go is pretty poor.

Dawson is nearly back to fitness. We still have Kaboul, King and Bassong too...

I suppose we could keep hold of Corluka as he can cover there too.

But Kaboul and Bassong are currently our only two fully fit CB's.

dawson is back now,
since when?
gallas won't be out for too long.
says who?

Well we've been trying to sign a CB for a while now, so this is not big news, the fact that before we were going to sell Bassong and now it might make more sense to hang on to him until the summer is hardly a shocking idea.

I'd much rather have one too many CB's in our team than one too few, will give us more chance of finishing 3rd/4th - don't you think?

And in other news shortly before signing their new contracts at Spurs Aaron Lennon and Jermaine Defoe launch their new charity together, the SWNL - Support the Wags of North London

Surely a charitable donation by the club would be tax deductable as well so it would make sense all round (unless you work for HMRC)

Spurs boss responds to Pienaar and Corluka rumours
By Ben Pearce, Tottenham correspondent
Wednesday, January 4, 2012

Harry Redknapp has played down rumours that Steven Pienaar and Vedran Corluka will be leaving White Hart Lane in the January transfer
Pienaar is yet to feature in the Premier League this season, despite being available since the start of November after injury.
The 29-year-old has made just three appearances this campaign – all in the Europa League.
And, just one year after his move from Everton, there are doubts whether he will still be at Tottenham in February.
Reports of an impending exit appeared to be given further credence last night when Pienaar was absent from the Lilywhites’ squad against West Bromwich Albion.
However, Redknapp has revealed that the South Africa international was unavailable due to illness, and insists that Spurs have not received any offers for the former Toffees star.
“I’m sure he wants to play,” said the Tottenham boss. “He had a virus, he wasn’t well, otherwise he would have been on the bench. We haven’t had any approaches for him, not at the moment.”
Redknapp also dismissed reports that Corluka is on his way to West Ham this month after starting just one league game in the first half of the campaign.
“No chance,” said the manager.

Fairly unequivocal that Corluka is not leaving, less so on Pienaar
