Hearing we need to sell before we by MOutinho hopefully means just sell Modric. Why would we need to sell Modric and VDV to move for Moutinho? Doesnt make sense.
I was full of optimism yesterday. Today I have that pre interview/exam sickly feeling in the pit of my stomach that this transfer window is going to end in disaster for us either in midfield by selling Modric and not replacing, or missing out on an additional striker.

I dont want that Berbatov/Frazier Campbell feeling ever again on deadline day.

Because we as a club don't have a massive turnover and are well run. If as has been reported we sign Leandro, Willian and maybe Isco to go along with Gylfi, Vertonghen and Ade. Funding a move for a player of Moutinhos £30m pricetag means sacrifices will need to be made. Modrics fee + our other outgoings alone probably won't cover the fees and wages of all our targets.

Do Porto even need to sell another player now? I can see them giving Levy a taste of his own medicine and keeping Moutinho against his will.

well tbh, Porto don't really have an axe to grind with Levy just for the sake of it do they? If their chairman is anything like ours, personal feelings don't come into it if the cash is right. hopefully.

The payment that Wishkah is referring to could be an installment due on someone we have already purchased e.g. Rafa it doesn't necessarily have to be for a new player.

It wouldn't have been refused/sent back the first time if that was the case

In fees are matched with out fees and wages are matched against expected future revenue.

Can people stop talking finances. Clearly most no nothing in this regard (as above) and pretend they do. Leave that to Levy.

Havent seen anyone suggest this yet but just going back to wiskah's comments earlier about sending a payment. Has anyone considered that we might have finally found someone willing to take bentley? :sneaky:

If we sell Modric though he needs replaced. More so than the purchase of Willian. How glaringly obvious was our lack of inventiveness against Newcastle? We need someone very comfortable on the ball in there, which Livermore was not.
Sell Modric to buy Moutinho. Selling Rafa should be to purchase Willian.

It makes me wonder why we bought Siggy in a way (don't get wrong, still happy we signed him - he'll be good alright)

I would of preferred to keep VDV and just used most of the Modric money to get Moutinho...because no matter what way you look at it - Modric and VDV are better than Moutinho and Sig (on the ball anyway)

The other two are better off it, fit the pressing game well and still possess similar levels of quality, albeit not quite at the same level.

We might be better balanced this way but....

I don't think the signing of Sig suggests anything other than the intention to build a squad.

I don't think of our signing as automatic starters or otherwise. Quality competition for places only helps us move forward. So rare we'd complete a season without having to dig around the squad.

If we sign Moutinho, I will run through Tesco's naked, pointing at my old chap whilst dancing in front of old ladies shouting 'you get more than clubcard points with this sausage'. I don't care what the magistrate said the last time. I'll do it again.

Please don't do this in the Bracknell branch, my heart would not take it

I am speculating to answer the posters questions. I have no idea about spurs finances or potential future earnings.

What I do know though if Levy thinks we have to sell VDV to finance a deal for another player. Then he has made that decision in the best interests of the club.

Day by day, I am getting more convinced that this must be done. I love the guy, I really do - check my avatar. But, having watched highlights again and again of the Newcastle game and how we are now expected to play under AVB and taking in to account VDV's age and fitness record, I think it's time to make some money and replace with pace, flair and trickery. Willian for me is that at a price we can afford.

Sorry Rafa. :(

I believe I've committed myself in various posts to get a bank loan, hire a billboard on the north circular, and have a poster of my nipples displayed on it for a month, before changing my name to Freaky McKnickers if we complete the signings of Adebayor, Leandro and Moutinho this window. One down...

Ok - agree.

What I do (personally) believe is that we can afford Moutinho, Diamo and Willian if the expected outgoings materialise.

I love Levy but its clearly obvious the stadium and training centre have impacted on our transfer dealings, as much as he said it would not. Understandable though.

The proof is we seemingly have to sell to buy now and are getting outspent by the promoted clubs!

I agree Beermat. The only reason for a payment to be returned is that the Bank details of the recipient of the payment have been quoted incorrectly by either the payee themselves or by their Bank if someone at the Bank transposed the details incorrectly. It would not be returned because the amount was incorrect.

My point was that the reason for the payment could just as easily be for something else rather than a downpayment for a new player.

Seems that the Daily Mail have now pulled that story about VdV to United!

Receptionist: Hello Daily Mail, which department please?
Levy: Sportsdesk. Now.
Receptionist: One moment...

(annoying muzak)

Sportsmail journalist: Hello sportsdesk - number one with an exclusive everyday, how can I help you?
Levy: You sold your soul to the devil to work for that paper?
Sportsmail journalist: (looks sheepishly around office, whispers) Yes.
Levy: Well I'm the Devil. Pull the Vdv to Utd story, or I'll collect right now.
Sportsmail journalist: eeeek! Sorry master... (sweating furiously, contacts IT desk)
