Hi JJ. Is that some sort of confirmation on the world class deal? Or is that deal still on going/up in the air?

It means the deal is still ongoing and is likely but it's at a delicate stage and could still go tits up especially if word got out so he's keeping schutm otherwise it's his bollocks and not on levy's chin either...or summit like that...

I can't speak for JJ obviously, but he's always had a good sense of humor (I think the Jenas avatar is in response to one of my lunacys) and I believe he was actually going along with the joke. Although I do have a PM from A&C and Rob titled "You're Dead Man" which I guess I should read as it probably refers to the DC Hero that can take over bodies.

It's pretty obvious that I was taking a little jab at Ryan's "Inside this vault is a Bigfoot, but I won't open the vault door because you called it a Sasquatch" comment ;)

And by the way.....the lot of you could treat JJ as a person every once in a while. Rather than bombarding him with requests, joke with him every once in a while. He's not a robot. Wait....I think I made a pretty good case that he is in another post.

I worry that Ade might throw the toys out of the pram if he's not first choice, though maybe there would be a case for:-

---------------------------Lloris--------------------------------
Walker-----Kaboul------------Vetonghen-----Bale----
------------------------Sandro----------------------↓↓↓↓---
-------------Moutinho----------VDV--------------------------
Lennon-----<World Class Striker?>----Adebayor-----

Bale at left back with a license to bomb forward.....Adebayor naturally likes to drift out onto the left.....Bale and Adebayor would be an insane handful for any team to cope with.....right backs would be having nightmares the night before the game...and the opposition's Right Winger would be forced to put in a defensive shift also....nullifying their attacking threat somewhat. 2 opposition players marking Ade and Bale each, would open up space for the likes of Sandro, Moutinho, and VDV arriving outside the opposition box.

If you're going to do that, in my mind it has to be Ade on the right, then Bale LW, BAE LB, and Lennon drops to the bench.

We still guessing on the mystery world class player? David Beckham :)

I'd still take him, even at age 37. I have to admit I haven't seen him play recently... but set pieces, crossing, and passing really were masterful. Not too mention the increase in profile the club would receive.

He scored two Beckham specials for LA Galaxy this weekend as it happens.

Weird.. I was thinking about the possibility of Ade playing out in one of the wide positions of the front three, yesterday. I reckon he could do it..

The guessing all adds to the enjoyment of the window. It's the closest I'll get to that childhood anticipation for Christmas day. Of course there's always the potential nightmare situation...

Mum: "Merry Christmas SK...here's your present. Enjoy!"
Me: "Yay! Thanks mum, you're amazing."
Mum: "Oh by the way we've sold your BMX Berbabike."
Me: "oh...."
Mum: "but don't worry, I'm sure you'll love the replacement..."
Me: "great" (opens present) "erm...it's a Frazierspace Hopper."
Mum: "Enjoy!"
Me: "fuck you."

As I've pondered it, Ade could definitely play on one side of the front three.
He used to drift out to the left all the time when he played for some other team. Quite how that would fit in with Bale, I don't know, but i'm sure he could equally be effective on the other flank.
Would be great to snare the world class poaching striker, but equally you could put VDV in the central position of the 3 and have them all interchanging.

Anyway. World Class poaching striker please.
To go with our:
World Class keeper (Lloris)
World Class full backs: (Benni/Kyle)
World Class centre backs: (Kaboom/Verts)
World Class defensive midfielder: (Sandro)
World Class left midfielder: (Bale)
World Class central midfielder: (Moutinho)
World Class forward: (Adebayor)
World Class playmaker: (VDV)

And the subs ain't too bad either :)

It's all looking pretty, prett-tay good.

I can't help looking at that incredibly strong team and thinking if it wasn't for Citeh and the Chav's billions, we would be a permanent fixture in the top 4, and challenging for the title every season. Maybe even winning it. After all, in a world with no oil rich Chavs or Citeh...are main rivals would be ManUre, Arsenal and a genuinely weak Liverpool.

I would bet a good chunk of money that the potential world class signing is a RWF. It is the position that we most need to add depth/strengthen. In addition, Lennon doesn't really fit the profile of an AVB RWF because they are supposed to cut in and score. Lennon will certainly play but he isn't an ideal ideal fit.

The only other two spots that people have really speculated at is Modric replacement and Striker. I think with striker there is no way that we are going to bring in someone who could start over Adebayor since he is about to become the clubs highest paid player. We are not Citeh and it would be nonsensical to pay the money to have two top earners who are unlikely to play on the field together. I still think we'll probably buy another striker but it will more likely be someone who is under 10 million to back up Ade.

In regards to a Modric replacement we still seem to be heavily involved with Moutinho. JJ hinted that it is a transfer that might go late so I doubt that we have lined up someone else when things still look mildly positive. Furthermore, JJ said this a player we haven't been linked to in the papers so it is certainly not Moutinho.

Reading between the lines this all points to a RW scoring forward. We need wing depth and competition and it is a position that we don't have have perfect fit for. I'll going on the record saying my guess is Muller. Many will say he isn't world class but he has already won a Golden boot, scored in a Champions league final and is still only 22.

What makes you think that? We've never finished with a points total enough to win the league.

That's nothing to do with Chelsea/City billions, it's to do with our own inadequacies in playing the Stokes and Blackpools of the league over the years.

Yeah I guess you're right Kendall. There just feels like such fierce competition for the Top Four spots with..

Citeh
Chavs
ManUre
Us
Liverpool
ARSEnal

All vying for the the Champions League money train ticket....it would seem a little easier if we had less direct competitors.

Not sure where to put this but it looks like we've signed Grant Hall (20 yr old CB from Brighton free agent as of June 30) played for the Spurs XI team last night against Kingstonian

Yep. The name of 'Tottenham' has in recent years suggested a team that is a soft touch. Regardless of the calibre of players we have this seems to be a cloud hanging over us. As soon as the players (and the fans for that matter) begin to believe in how good we are, we can start to play with that arrogance and swagger that the best teams manage to do. Turn up away to Stoke with an attitude of 'we'll respect you to an extent, but we're beating you', and a mentality that the players have to fight tooth and nail for 3 points and nothing less.

Every draw should feel like a defeat, and every defeat should feel like relegation. Aim high.

So great to see us signing up talented youngsters again. Would be so damn good if we could discover a world class GEM from our own youth ranks though.
